    Evaluación del estado nutricional en adolescentes de 15 a 18 años de los colegios Nacional Técnico Agropecuario 26 de Feberro, Nacional Ciudad de Paute y Unidad Educativa Particular Julio María Matovelle del cantón Paute, marzo 2011

    Background: Adolescence is a crucial stage, with high prevalence of nutritional disorders, which then continues into adulthood and are associated with complications in the short and long term. Objective: Toevaluatenutritional status in adolescents in highschools “NACIONAL TÉCNICO AGROPECUARIO 26 DE FEBRERO”, “NACIONAL CIUDAD DE PAUTE” and “UNIDAD EDUCATIVA PARTICULAR JULIO MARÍA MATOVELLE” of Paute. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted in a sample of 580 students inPaute and these were distributed in 2 public institutions and a private one, between 15 and 18 years of age, surveys were applied to determine the physical activity and food intake patterns to determinate the nutritional status was used anthropometric measurements and BMI. Results: Malnutrition in this population had a prevalence of 4%, obesity was present in 3.8% and overweight affected 14.3% of the population, the average age for females stood at 16.80 years with a standard deviation of 1.04 years, the average for males stood at 16.57 years with a standard deviation of 1.11 years, 79.5% of the study population came from a public school while 20.5% from a private school, the complete diet was the most prevalent in this population with 37.9%, hypercaloricdiet was found with 32.4% of the population, high fat diet accounted for 23.1% in adolescents and the high protein diet accounted for 6.6 % of the population. Of the total study population 48.1% presented regular and adequate physical activity, 34.7% a semi-active and showed a prevalence of sedentary lifestyle of 17.2%. Conclusions: Overweight was the nutritional alteration with more impact in the adolescent population, were not associated with this situation the types of diet either the physical activity levels.
