Análisis de la pobreza multidimensional: caso aplicado al cantón Nabón
(2014) Guillén Salgado, Margarita Lucía; Phélan Casanova, Luis Mauricio
Poverty is a complex phenomenon that encompasses various aspects of human life, also takes on different meanings according to the criteria with which is studied, however, all concepts have an almost unanimous view to characterize a situation of poverty such as, the lack of access to goods and services that ensure a decent standard of living, not having the opportunity to develop, inability to participate in society and be limited in their capabilities; in this manner is evident that poverty is characterized as multidimensional. In this context, the Alkire Foster method based on the theory of Amartya Sen's capabilities, incorporates a dual approach in the process of identification of poor households. Methodologically were considered in this research quantitative and qualitative aspects within the dimensions (Education, Employment, Health, Quality of Life, Income, Participation and Subjective Aspects) and the methodology was applied to the analysis of multidimensional poverty in Nabón, Azuay province, for the year 2012, thus, the main results were generated valuable information that serves as input for the implementation of public policies targeted, since it is evident that the canton Nabón presents high rates of multidimensional poverty, and, differences between urban and rural areas have strong imbalances according to each dimension and indicator studied.

Generación de un sistema de indicadores con el enfoque del buen vivir en el cantón Pucará, provincia del Azuay, Ecuador, al año 2012
(2014) Arias Pallaroso, Francisco Alexander; Phélan Casanova, Luis Mauricio
The good living is a concept in process of construction which requires a simultaneous progress between its conceptualization and operationalization. The approximation for measurements of good living is part of what is called fourth generation of indicators, which are characterized for being multidimensional; they are complementary between the subjective and objective; they are territorially disaggregated and participatory built. They are issues that are at the center of current academic debate and in order to go holding fast, they require territorial operationalization, locally, and in the country. In this respect, the main objective of this study points to the Generation of a system of indicators with the approach of Good Living in the city of Pucará, Azuay Province, Ecuador in 2012. The system of indicators for the four planning zones of the canton Pucará was based on the rights mentioned in the Ecuadorian Constitution of 2008 and the National Plan for Good Living from 2013-2017, in the concepts expressed by authors related to this stream, and in priority factors for Good Living by the population. In addition Nussbaum approach was used to construct measures of capacity as an approach to Good Living. The main findings indicate an ideal of rural peasant Good Living in which access to social and economic rights is prioritized; high optimism that is far from the actual conditions; aspirations paradox is evident; political skills and vulnerable materials; territorial brokers of compliance of capabilities.
