The present study has the objective of designing an educational proposal that facilitates the learning of algebraic addition of integers, based on an ethnomathematical approach with the use of the Yupana, this proposal is programmed to be implemented with students of the eighth grade of BGE. For the elaboration of the proposal, a mixed methodology has been carried out, collecting quantitative data from the grades obtained in a diagnostic test of the students and from an applied activity, at the same time, qualitative variables about the students' perceptions have been analyzed, in order to establish problems and help tools; in addition, ideas expressed by future mathematics teachers have been considered. In the results obtained, valuable information has been gathered about the problems encountered in learning algebraic sums, as well as students' perceptions and first impressions about the use of the Yupana, complemented with reflections of future teachers for a better application in the classroom. The conclusion of this study shows that the proposal has great acceptance, both among students and future teachers, considering ethnomathematical work with the Yupana a valuable option to improve learning processes.
