    Trastorno bipolar en pacientes inicialmente diagnosticados con depresión mayor del centro de reposo y adicciones Humberto Ugalde Camacho en el período 2010-2016

    INTRODUCCIÓN: According to the OMS, the depressive disorder affects more than 300 million people worldwide, the bipolar affective disorder affects around 60 million people presenting a higher incidence among women, those diagnosed with these two types of disorders. Unipolar depression usually takes around 10 years to receive an adequate diagnosis of bipolar depression and its respective treatment (1). OBJECTIVE: To determine bipolar disorder in patients initially diagnosed with major depression at the "Humberto Ugalde Camacho" Rest and Addiction Center in the 2010-2016 period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective-descriptive study was conducted on the time necessary for the diagnosis of bipolar affective disorder in patients with initial diagnosis of major depression at the "Humberto Ugalde Camacho" Rest and Addiction Center in the period2010-2016; the technique used was the recording of information from the medical records, the data was processed using Microsoft Excel and the SPSS software for the realization of tables and graphs. RESULTS: The ages of the patients ranged between 16 and 64 years, with an average age of 38.2857. The predominant sex was the female, age range is higher than 36-59 years age groups prevail youth and adulthood, level of education primary level, and singles and divorcees who do not report relationships of couple, urban area and occupation domestic chores. CONCLUSIONS: Bipolar disorder with initial diagnosis of major depression was identified in 14 patients of the 85 patients studied
