In the present thesis, an architectural draft is developed for a multipurpose church in the Mirador del Noroccidente neighborhood of Quito, as part of an agreement between the community and the Heald and Life Foundation. The reason for the agreement lies in the lack of facilities in the neighborhood, due to the lack of urban planning and the presence of underused or deteriorated facilities. The proposed solution is to design, at the preliminary project level, a church that can accommodate various activities in the same space. In this work, the development of the architectural preliminary design for the multipurpose church in the Mirador del Noroccidente neighborhood is presented. This project was requested through an agreement between the Heald and Life Foundation and the Mirador del Noroccidente neighborhood. The reason for the agreement was the lack of facilities currently present in the neighborhood, either due to the absence of an urban planning plan for the area or existing facilities that are unused or in poor condition. For this reason, the proposed option to address this issue was the design, at the preliminary level, of a church capable of accommodating various activities in a single space. Through an analysis of the theoretical foundations of Catholic religious facilities, it is considered not only from an architectural perspective but also from a social perspective for comprehensive development. This leads to the identification of religious symbolism and sacred spaces that will influence the church’s design. Then, through parallel analysis of the needs and characteristics of the sector, the project is linked to its immediate surroundings, achieving the design of the proposed spaces. development. This provides a foundation for the projection of this type of facility. Furthermore, a study of different case studies is conducted, providing feedback from already constructed and functioning works to aid in the development of the preliminary design. This involves understanding their functionality and dimensions through spatial analysis. The analysis continues with different case studies, obtaining ample information on these types of spaces for the development of the preliminary project, understanding their functioning and dimensions through spatial analysis. All of this is focused on the planning and design of a multipurpose church that addresses the needs of a neighborhood lacking facilities, considering both theoretical and practical aspects in its development. Structural, environmental, and urban aspects are also taken into account to ensure that the proposal meets the established program.
