Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-09-08) Palomeque Medina, Ivonne Daniela; Ulloa Álvarez, Nicolás Alejandro; Abril Rivera, Juan AndrésBackground: Prostate cancer (CaP) is the second neoplasm with the highest incidence in Ecuador. Strategies focus on timely screening to reduce deaths, however, an increase of 68% has been evidenced, this is due to the relationship of this pathology with increased life expectancy. Objectives: To establish the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer at the José Carrasco Arteaga Specialty Hospital in the city of Cuenca in the period January 2017-January 2020. Method: A descriptive study was carried out. The information was analyzed in the SPSS program. Qualitative variables were expressed as absolute frequencies and percentages, and quantitative variables as mean and standard deviation. Results: Mestizo men aged 61-70, living in urban areas, married, primary education, retired, overweight, with no family history or tobacco use were those who represented the largest number of the population. The most frequent obstructive symptom was decreased caliber and force of the urinary stream, and the irritative symptom was nocturia. The PSA value range >20ng/dL prevailed. Clinical stage IIA was presented mostly. The histological type acinar adenocarcinoma prevailed. ISUP1 grade prevailed with 42,7%. Most presented bone metastases. Conclusions: The sociodemographic distribution of the patients was described as expected; this was similar to the distribution of other studies. The symptoms, the histological type and if they presented metastasis to any organ were identified. Divergences are observed with the PSA range, the clinical stage and the ISUP grade.
