    Estilos de Liderazgo y aporte al desarrollo local. Estudio sobre mujeres y hombres en cargos públicos de la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador 2017

    Objective: Contribute to the knowledge of leadership styles and their relationship with the local development of people in public positions in Cuenca-Ecuador 2017. Method: Quantitative, observational, descriptive cross-sectional study; population 146 officials in public office. The sample corresponded to the population, the unit of analysis were men and women: departmental directors of the Prefecture, from the GAD Municipal de Cuenca and neighborhood leaders. Instrument used Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ 6s) of B. M. Bass and B. J. Avolio (1992). Informed consent requested prior to data collection. Data processed in SPSS 15.00, data presentation in frequency and percentage distributions. Association between qualitative variables measured by Pearson's chi-square. Results: Among the participants, the transformational and transactional behavior corresponds to 22.9% respectively and the laissez faire leadership behaviors 21.4%. Main socio-demographic characteristics: young adult 49.3%, male sex 61.4%, with complete university studies 70%. Conclusions: In the researched population there are no people with a specific type of leadership but coexist transformational, transactional and laissez faire behaviors. Regarding the contribution to local development, the participants perceive their work as very good in the following areas: social and defense of rights.
