    Prevalencia de úlceras por presión en pacientes adultos mayores de los centros geriátricos de la provincia del Azuay, Cuenca 2023 – 2024

    Background: pressure ulcers are a worldwide problem, which over the years have affected different age and social groups. These impact everyone without any distinction, it is a condition that alters people's daily lives, the same one that is more prevalent in older adults. Objectives: determine the prevalence of pressure ulcers in older adult patients in the Geriatric Centers of the province of Azuay, 2023-2024. Methods: a quantitative, descriptive study was carried out with a sample of 134 older adults from the geriatric centers “Los Jardines”, “Años Dorados”, “Nueva Esperanza”, “Santa Ana”, “El Nido” and “Antonio”. Granda Centeno”, which were selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data collection instruments used were the validated Waterlow scale, which was applied using a form. Tabulation was carried out using the SPSS program, Microsoft Excel 2019. Results: the main objective was to evaluate the prevalence of pressure ulcers in this population group, revealing a percentage of 57.1%. Furthermore, a higher prevalence was observed in females with a percentage of 85.7%. Likewise, a higher frequency was identified in single individuals with a percentage of 42.9%. Regarding permanence in the geriatric center, a percentage of 78.6% was presented.
