The present research provides information on the influence of different photo-periods on the growth and the rate of growth of two species of microalgae: Chlorella sp. and Nannochloropsisoculatacultured at laboratory scale. In addition, the responses of these microalgaeto the increasing and deficient of macronutrients nitrogen and phosphorus on synthesis of flavonoids, polyphenols and carotenoidsmeasured by spectrophotometry are presented. The results revealed the more beneficial photo-period for each species; resulting in 14/10 hours light/dark for Chlorella sp., and 10/14 hours light/dark for Nannochloropsisoculata. In addition, it was observed that nitrogen affects the production of polyphenols and flavonoids, while phosphorus does on the production of carotenoids in the two species of microalgae studied. This represents an important advance in photosynthetic culture production and opens the possibilities to improve the methodology and reduce cost in the total of production of biomass.
