Nowadays, companies are constantly changing, this is due to things like globalization, competition, technological advances and consumers` changing tastes and preferences; this is the reason why companies must create competitive advantage. A good system based on cost minimization tools, such as mathematical models, generates efficiency throughout the logistics process and allows to identify, assess and improve decision-making. These models require variables and parameters for their development. This research aims at characterizing parameters in the physical distribution of household appliances, which will be essential for the project "Development of mathematical programming for the supply chain" The methodology to determine these parameters is based on Lambam, Royo, Valencia, Berges and Galar`s research and work; also, the experience of Dennis Borenstein PhD, Prometheus, School of Economic and Administrative Sciences at the University of Cuenca contributed to this study. The logistics index is a fundamental part, since this is the key inductor to allocate the cost of storage. In addition, the methodology collects the information needed to analyze critical points and thus raise some recommendations within the process of distribution of the product in the company "XYZ".
