    Conocimientos y actitudes frente a los efectos secundarios del tratamiento oncológico, en pacientes mayores de 18 años en la Organización Familias Unidas por los Enfermos de Cáncer, Cuenca 2016

    Background: The oncological treatments contribute to the quality and survival of patients with cancer, with the help of the science and technology are creating new cytostatic drugs that have improved the life expectancy of the oncological patients, in spite of this, its high power chemistry is not exempt from side effects. General Objective: To determine the knowledge and attitudes in relation to the side effects of cancer treatment, in patients older than 18 years of the organization United Families by cancer patients, Cuenca - 2016. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study, which worked with 70 patients who come to the organization "Families Nations by the sick with cancer" of Cuenca, who were applied a questionnaire developed by the authors, such information was processed in the program SPSS 22, analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results: The sample represented patients older than 60 years (47.1%), female sex (52.9%), from urban and area residents (54.3% and 61.4%); received chemotherapy the 35.7%, oncological surgery 27.2%, radiotherapy 7.2%. Know that the side effects presented are own of treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, 89.1% 95%, oncological surgery 96%); consider that there is treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, 58.6% 60%, oncological surgery 96%) and the duration of the same chemotherapy (60.8%, 55%, Radiotherapy Oncology Surgery 72%); in terms of their attitudes users go to the doctor when they present a side effect (68.5%), they do not consider abandoning treatment (75.5%), 95.7% have confidence in the treatment and 98.5% a positive attitude. Conclusions: Knowledge (72.4%) and attitudes (84.6%) are adequate compared to the side effects of oncologic treatment in patients of the FUPEC organization
