Item Influencia del Internet en el rendimiento escolar y el estado nutricional de los estudiantes del Colegio Isabel Moscoso Dávila, Cuenca 2015(2015) Espejo Ruiz, Ruth Elizabeth; Fernández Siguencia, Karla Michell; Sarmiento Valarezo, Gissella Stefanía; Jiménez Brito, Doriz AngélicaCurrently the use of Internet is widespread and young population which has higher affinity for these new technologies, devoting much of his free time. Therefore, it is important to determine the effects on nutritional status and school performance on the users. Objective: To determine the influence of the Internet on school performance and nutritional status of Isabel Moscoso Davila students. Cuenca 2015. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted analytical in the period between April and June 2015. The study population consisted of 84 students from the highest degrees existing in Isabel Moscoso Davila School of Cuenca, the 10th year basic education and first high school degree as determined by body mass index, previously passed through a form, validated before in thesis protocol. These data were transferred to a computer program (SPSS software evaluation version for Windows) for the statistical analysis. Results: Of the 84 students in the study, 65.48% (n=55) were male and 34.52% (n = 29) were female, a 63.10% (n=53) has access Internet at home, while 39.60% do not have this service, but, access the Internet either at outside of home or by mobile devices. Preferred sites are social networks with a 21.43% (n=56) followed by video pages with 13.10% (n=11). Underachievement was found in 4.76% (n=4), while 36.9% (n=31) students presented alterations in nutritional status with 29.76% (n = 25) with low weight, although this relationship was not statistically significant (p = 0.6). Underachievement had a significant relationship with the availability of internet (p = 0.04). Conclusions: In this study a greater risk of changes in nutritional status by the use of internet was not determined, while not having this service is a significant risk factor for having a poor school performance
