    Prevalencia, características de depresión y factores asociados en los/las estudiantes de la Escuela de Enfermería, Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2011

    Objective: To determine the prevalence of depressive features and associated factors in the students of the School of Nursing, Faculty of Medical Sciences, of the University of Cuenca 2011. Materials and Methods: From 1029 students enrolled at the School of Nursing, Faculty of Medical Sciences, of the University of Cuenca, 2011, from first to eighth cycle was obtained a random sample of 175 students. The study exclusion criteriawere appliedthat causeda loss of 21%of the universe. Fordata collectiontest was usedSRQ(Self-Rating Questionnaire)and asocio demographicform. The information collected was analyzed in Excel 2007, EpiInfo 3.1 and Epidat programs. Result: The total study population (n = 823) the prevalence of depression is 18.5% (n = 152 cases). In our study sample (n = 175) found that age at the onset of depression is between 18 to 21 years with a 60.47% (n = 26 cases, p = 0.91), in the present study association was statistically significant: anxiety, substance (alcohol), economic resources.
