    Manifestaciones clínicas y estrategias de diagnóstico de la apendicitis aguda en pacientes pediátricos de 5 a 10 años del Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo, Azogues, julio – diciembre 2021

    Background: According to the article published in 2019 at the Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo evidence that Acute Appendicitis occurs very frequently in pediatric patients aged 5 to 10 years. Objective: to describe the clinical manifestations and diagnostic strategies of acute appendicitis in pediatric patients aged 5 to 10 years at the Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo, Azogues, July - December 2021. Methodology: a study with a quantitative approach, descriptive cross-sectional observational design was carried out, using forms, anonymized database and medical records of the Hospital to collect information and analyzed with the SPSS 25 program. Results: Female patients aged 8 to 10 years with acute appendicitis represent 54.4%, they are residents of the urban area, the nutritional status is reflected in boys with 28.6% and girls with 33.3% indicating normal weight. The most frequent clinical manifestations are pain in the right iliac fossa with 22.9%, vomiting 21.9% and nausea 20.6%. The average time of evolution was 1.27 ± 0.61. The most used diagnostic strategies were physical assessment, laboratory tests with 37% and ultrasound with 26%. Conclusions: the most frequent clinical manifestations were determined and the most used diagnostic strategies in the identification of the pathology were described, relating to age, sex, place of residence and nutritional status of pediatric patients aged 5 to 10 years.
