The objective of this study was to validate a method for the quantification of lead and cadmium in drinking and natural water matrices using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry at the Drinking Water Laboratory of ETAPA EP. The methodology included the experimentaldesign based on the validation of parameters such as linearity, repeatability, reproducibility, accuracy (bias), detection limit, and quantification limit, where results aligned with the stated objectives. Linearity was R² ≥ 0.98, repeatability RSDr ≤ 10%, reproducibility ≤ 10%, accuracy (bias) % recovery = 80% -120%, quantification limit RSDR ≤ 10%, and detection limit LOD ≤ 5 µg/L for lead and LOD ≤ 1 µg/L for cadmium. Fortified samples and measurement standards were used to ensure the precision and accuracy of the method. The results showed that the validated method meets the criteria established by current regulations, proving to be suitable for the quantification of lead and cadmium in the matrices of interest. In conclusion, the validated method guarantees reliable results, enabling its implementation in water quality monitoring and fulfilling regulatory authorities' requirements.
