Item Actitudes y conductas de salud oral de estudiantes de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca 2014(2015) Lafebre Carrasco, Milton Fabricio; Cobos Carrera, Diego Fernando; Arévalo Peláez, Carlos Eduardo; Charry Ramírez, José Ricardo; Torracchi Carrasco, Aldo MateoThe aim of this survey was the attitudes and behavior in dental students of the School of Dentistry at the University of Cuenca, and the use of Hiroshima dental behavior dental inventory (HU-DBI). This survey included students from first to fifth year and candidates for postgraduate programs and postgraduate students. A survey was conducted to freshmen to fifth year and included leveling students and graduate students, the total number of respondents was 460 students which included students from first to fifth, leveling and graduate students, a response rate found of 87.47%, where 256 (66.7%) were women, 128 (33.33%) were men, most urban origin 96.3%, the index number HU-DBI was for preclinical students with DS 8.89 and 1,542 students with clinical experience with DS 1.485 9.49. Dental health is an essential part of health and represents an important element for the quality of life. In this sense it is intended to evaluate the attitudes and behaviors of dental health using the approved index Hiroshima University Dental Behavior Inventory (HU-DBI) among the different areas of knowledge of the University of Cuenca. This study was a survey with Sociodemographic variables and 20 dichotomous questions of the HUDBI, which was applied after signing the informed consent forms in all the training areas of the University of Cuenca. The response rate was 56% N=7790 students, with an average age of 21,15 years, DS±2,42 variance of 5,89, the male-female ratio is 1:1,07. The majority of students are of the urban origin with 82,8% and the vast majority are single (7125 students=91,4%). The average of the HU-DBI index is 6,06 with a DS±1,81 and a variance of 3,27. There is a better index of the students of health science compared with the students of other areas. The aim of this study was, through a literature review, to analyze the results of several investigations that have established a relationship between periodontal disease and mouth breathing. Methodology: a search and selection of articles related to periodontal disease in patients with mouth breathing was carried out. The search criteria taken into account were: electronic databases, key words and meeting the indispensable requirement of being less than 5 years old. Thirty-three articles were selected that met the criteria for the present review. Results and conclusion: periodontal disease and mouth breathing may be associated with generalized systemic inflammation. Evaluate the nutritional status allow us give high quality healthcare in the children and identify whom are in nutritional risk. The excessive consumption gets to an energetic unbalance, which can take to a nutritional disorder such as overweight, obesity and even underweight The correct feeding of children are important factors in all phases of development and systemic growth and development in dental eruption and maintenance of teeth. Dental caries, periodontal disease and dental malocclusion constitute one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide in school. Materials and methods: the sample was 80, 7 years old boys and girls from Unidad Educativa Fe y Alegría, it preform a dental and medical exam to determinate the nutritional status and oral health. The data was analyzed with SPSS 20.0 IBM. Chicago, IL. Results: the data showed that 48.7% of the kids is underweight, 97.5% had dental caries and malocclusions represent 95%. Aphthae oral and traumatic ulcers occurred in 1.2% of children each. Conclusions: The data obtained in this study indicates that most of the children studied are underweight. The most common oral diseases found are dental caries, periodontal disease and malocclusion. To a lesser extent found aphthae oral and traumatic ulcers. No link between nutritional deficiency or excess with the most common oral diseases was establishedItem Factores de riesgo de gingivitis en el embarazo en gestantes que acuden a la Clínica Humanitaria de atención materno-infantil(2015) Salinas Zhiminaicela, María Daniela; Cobos Carrera, Diego FernandoIntroduction: The pregnant woman is susceptible to have a gum disease product of systemic alterations during pregnancy and the presence of risk factors that facilitate the establishment of Gingivitis. Therefore is important to know which are the predisposing factors in the oral cavity to facilitate the emergence of the disease and prevent it. There are some risks factors as overweight, hypertension, frequency of oral hygiene, removable appliances or fixed prosthetic or orthodontic type in the oral cavity are facilitating the accumulation of plaque, visit the dentist, tooth position, habit of smoking. Methods: The study was done on 60 pregnant women, 30 of them with located Gingivitis and 30 with Generalized gingivitis. The information was collected in a form using the intraoral examination and oral questions. After crossing variables and Chi2 application it was made. Results: 3.3% of cases and 16.6% of controls are underweight, 13.3% of cases are obese, and only 3.3% are overweight. 3.3% of cases had hypertension. These values are not statistically significant. No severe inflammation was found in controls, while in 40% of cases was present. 58.3% of patients decreased the hygienic´s frequency for nausea causing by toothbrushing. Conclusions: Gingivitis in pregnant women is caused by the accumulation of plaque in the gingiva, product of the poor hygiene. However, the use of these drugs has generated adverse reac tions in the oral cavity such as xerostomia, gingival hyperplasia, taste alterations, among others. The present study aims to identify in the literature the adverse reactions or undesirable effects related to antihypertensive therapy. A search was carried out in the digital bases in PubMed, Scopus, Scielo and Google Scholar, 27 articles published between 2010-2021, 5 clinical guides and 3 books were selected. The antihypertensive drugs with the highest number of reports in the literature were: angiotensin-converting enzy me inhibitors, calcium channel blockers and diuretics, these being the ones with the highest number of reported adverse reactions in the oral cavity. Xerostomia, taste disturbances and gingival hyperplasia are the most frequent oral manifestations related to the use of antihypertensives in this review.Item Nivel socioeconómico de los hogares de los niños de 10 - 48 meses de edad del “Centro de Cuidado Infantil Perpetuo Socorro” 2013-2014(2014-06-02) Ugalde Asanza, María Belén; Plaza Patiño, Alan Steven; Cobos Carrera, Diego FernandoThis is a descriptive cross-sectional study to determine the socioeconomic status of households in 150 children that are from 10 to 48 months old, from "Centro de Cuidado Infantil Perpetuo Socorro" from the city of Cuenca. This study aimed to assess the socioeconomic status of the families of these children using the Stratification Survey from INEC. It began with the registration of the general data of the child and then by applying the survey a value was obtained corresponding to each of these categories to be classified. Furthermore, according to the age group to which children belong, it was concluded that although this study group was relatively homogeneous, the socioeconomic level that prevaled was category C, being medium low, and representing 46 %. Similarly, all children of this center studied were children who had a high rate of bacterial plaque, but the plaque index was not statistically significant related to the socioeconomic status of these. It was concluded that there is greater caries experience in class C- (medium-low) with an average of 15.17 considering white spot surfaces per patient. Socioeconomic status and caries experience showed no statistical significance (p=o.84).Item Perfil epidemiológico de salud oral en personas de la tercera edad que habitan en el Asilo Cristo Rey de la ciudad de Cuenca(2015) Palomeque Zambrano, Andrea Jackeline; Cobos Carrera, Diego FernandoThe elderly people are a risk population to different systemic and oral diseases, which affect their quality of life. The presence of dental decay, periodontal disease, edentulism and dentures in poor condition can be seen frequently in elderly patients for many reasons such as motor or cognitive dysfunction of the person or comorbidities of diseases that exacerbate the prognosis of different oral pathologies. Objective: To determine the epidemiological profile of oral health of the people living in the asylum Cristo Rey of Cuenca. Methods: A descriptive study in senior age, in which a dental clinical diagnosis and a review of the medical history of each patient was performed. The sample consisted of 71 people, 65 and older, women and men. Results: Of the patients examined, 42 (59,2%) were female and 29 (40,8%) were male. Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca. 2012-2016(2017) Vásquez Serrano, Melissa Ivette; Vivar Moya, Adriana Leticia; Cobos Carrera, Diego FernandoGeneral Objective: Determine the prevalence of bone exostoses in all patients who were treated in the diagnostic area of the Faculty of Dentistry of Cuenca University in the period 2012 - 2016. Materials and Methods: A descriptive and observational study. A Total of 3316 medical records of patients who attended the Diagnostic Area of the Faculty were analyzed. Data from Clinical Histories that met the inclusion criteria were recorded in a control table; then entered into a Microsoft Excel 2016 database and later to the IBM SPSS 21 software statistical analysis program. Results: A prevalence of bone exostoses was obtained in 333 cases corresponding to 10% of the patients, indicating a higher prevalence for the range of 23 to 27 years old with 22% and for the female sex with a 65%. According to the location, the most prevalent exostoses were tori palatinus (72%). Conclusions: Data indicate that the presence of bone exostoses is low in our study, being more prevalent in patients between 23 and 27 years old, presenting a greater predominance for the female sex and for the tori palatinus according to its location.Item Propuesta de intervención educativa para el control de la caries dental en las escuelas de la parroquia Sigsig.
