    BACKGROUND: A high prevalence of hospitalized malnourished patients has been demonstrated for a number of years. This situation alters the clinical evolution, causing an increased risk of mortality, ie increased susceptibility to a number of complications resulting in an increase in hospital stay and Therefore in hospitalization costs. Objective: To determine nutritional status according to global scale in patients from 18 to 64 years. "Hospital General Macas". 2017 Methodological design: The study is a quantitative, descriptive, in which 153 patients between 18 and 64 years of age were admitted to the hospitalization room of the General Hospital of Macas. The main variables analyzed will be: age, sex, marital status, level of education, ethnicity, nutritional status, hospitalization time and income diagnosis. The instrument ah to be taken into account will be the application of subjective global nutritional assessment scale (VSG) and clinical history; the information will be processed to the computer for analysis with the Excel and SPSS programs. The main statistical measures ah use will be, Chi square, and p value of p. Use of results The results that emanate from this investigation will be made known to the hospital authorities, which can serve as a basis for the implementation of actions aimed at improving the situation, in addition the results may be used by the students of the Career of nursing
