Estudio del perfil de flujo a través de un vertedero lateral en un canal triangular mediante un modelo numérico

Side weirs are implemented in irrigation and drainage systems as a means to divert excess water flow into relief channels. The calculation of the water surface profile over the side weir remains a topic of research, as a complete analysis of the governing flow equations is not possible due to the involved variables. Although numerous studies have been conducted on flow over a side weir in a rectangular channel, there is limited literature available on the flow behavior in side weirs in a triangular channel. In this study, a Theoretical Method is derived for the dynamic equation of flow over a side weir in a triangular channel, based on the assumption of constant energy. The method is solved using numerical integration and graphically compared with the results of numerical simulations performed using the OpenFOAM software. The study focuses on the analysis of flow in the supercritical regime, for which inlet conditions are established, such as the slope of the channel bottom, which must be greater than the critical slope depending on the inlet flow rate. Five tests were conducted with different inlet flow rates, while maintaining the channel geometry, bottom slope, and Manning's roughness coefficient constant for all five cases. The results obtained showed small relative differences, indicating that the derived Theoretical Method is a good approximation of the flow profile behavior obtained through numerical simulation.
