Item Diseño y análisis de edificaciones con aisladores de base tipo FPT(2018) Cango Puchaicela, Angel David; Flores Solano, Francisco XavierDesigning structures that have the capacity to mitigate the effects of earthquakes in areas of high seismic hazard, such as Ecuador, is required to avoid economic losses and human lives, in this sense, several seismic protection techniques have been developed, including the use of FPT type base isolators, which reduce the seismic demand in the structure through a pendular and frictional mechanism. However, our current regulations do not provide guidelines to design this isolation system, hence the need to generate technical documents that facilitate the design and expand its use. Therefore, this work presents as a guide, the design of the isolation system for a 6-story steel building using FPT isolators, and also explains how to perform the seismic analysis according to the American standard ASCE7-16. The design is carried out by applying a parametric analysis procedure whose purpose is to relate the properties of the isolators with their respective response parameters, this is done using the OpenSees Software. On the other hand, seismic analysis is carried out using static and non-linear dynamic methods, the latter is done using the Etabs Software. Finally, it was found that the FPT isolators effectively reduce the seismic demand in a building, which gives the possibility of designing elastic structures that do not require incursion into the inelastic range, thus protecting the integrity of the structure and its occupants
