Item El municipio de Cuenca y la educación de las mujeres entre los años 1895 y 1925(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-02-22) Calle Chuqui, Janneth Johmara; Carrasco Aguilar, Nancy CatalinaThis research work seeks to publicize the role played by the Municipality of Cuenca in the education of women, through different actions embodied in the town hall minutes of 1895- 1925 and the bibliographic review. Since, the process of inserting women into the educational system is a process of constant struggle, since education was influenced by thoughts and ideologies linked to political and religious tendencies, a situation that marked the different educational models. However, the secularization of education generated social tensions by seeking the modernization of the State and society. Where women are a key part, since according to the liberals, the nation cannot be modernized by leaving behind the groups that have traditionally been forgotten, so that new opportunities are generated in the educational field. In addition, in the government of Eloy Alfaro, the powers of the municipalities in education at the local level are ratified as long as they are under what is allowed by law, that is why the Municipality of Cuenca intervenes in issues of women's education despite not having financial resources or a budget specifically earmarked for education issues, satisfies to the extent of its possibilities what is required by schools in matters of: infrastructure, purchase of supplies, payment of salary, appointments of teachers and assistants, purchase of prizes for female students, approval of contracts for religious orders or women seeking to direct women's schools.
