Item Estudio de factibilidad técnico-económica del diseño e implementación de un banco de baterías para un vehículo híbrido(Universidad de Cuenca, 2020-09-21) Bustamante Verdugo, Edgar Marcelo; Reibán Morocho, Gilson Xavier; Gonzalez Morales, Luis GerardoThis experimental degree work details the design and implementation of a Li-ion battery bank as a replacement of the original NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride) bank of a hybrid vehicle (Toyota Prius C). In this work performance analyses are carried out in different driving environments over which an ordinary vehicle can travel. Also, a comparison of budgets between the replacement with the original technology in an authorized importer of the vehicle brand against the costs that were made during the assembly process of the new Li-ion bank. A study of the different families or types of Li-ion batteries in the current market and the selection process of the technology implemented for the new bank is detailed. With the attaching objective of the new battery bank as accurately as possible to the original structure of the vehicle, all the processes and adaptations that were made are described so that the cells of the new bank do not suffer physical damage, which could compromise their useful life and performance. The final efficiency obtained from the new battery bank is compared with the original bank through the estimated cycle life and the reported fuel savings, when the vehicle transits through 3 different routes (city downtown, interstate road and highway). During the vehicle's journey, data on speed, cell voltage, state of charge, total bank current, module temperatures, etc., are taken through a mobile payment application (Torque Pro) on a smartphone with Android operating system, which connects to an IEEE-802.11 (WiFi) network created by the OBD2 adapter that communicates with the vehicle's ECU (Electronic Control Unit) through the CAN Bus protocol.
