Objective: To determine the prevalence of undiagnosed psychiatric disorders and their association with age, sex, marital status, occupation and medical illness in hospitalized patients. Methods: Cross-sectional study; which includes Clinic area patients of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. The universe corresponding to 2026 patients and 236 patients sample is calculated using the EPIDAT with 95% confidence, the sampling error of 6% and an estimated 50% of prevalence. The instrument used is the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, version 5.0.0 in Spanish. Results: The prevalence of psychiatric disorders diagnosed according to the MINI was 50.85% (n = 120). Major depressive episode is 32.7% and shows statistical association with age over 60 years at 30.9% (OR 1.65 CI 1.19 to 2.11 p = 0.035), marital status widowed 44% (RP IC 2.16 1.69 to 2.68 p = 0.008), heart failure 53.8% (OR 2.55 CI 1.99 to 3.12 p = 0.006) and diabetes mellitus type 2 with 43.8% (OR 2.23 CI 1.75 to 2.71 p = 0.003). The risk of suicide has a prevalence of 18.2%, representing a slight risk by 51.1% showing statistical association with marital status widowed 20% (OR 3.52 CI 2.56 to 4.47 p =0.009) and chronic kidney disease 23.1% (OR 3.68 CI 2.56 to 4.79 p = 0.023). Generalized anxiety disorder with a prevalence of 9.3% widowed marital status to partnering with 16% (OR 2.25 CI 1.23 to 3.27 p = 0.122). Conclusions: The prevalence of undiagnosed psychiatric disorders is high, demonstrating limitations in non-psychiatric physicians in the diagnosis of the mental health of their patients. The most prevalent diseases are a major depressive episode, suicide risk and generalized anxiety disorder.
