Among the challenges that education faces in the current context, one of them is adapting to the rapid social changes driven by the influence of new technologies. Within this reality, and under the inexorable influence of social media, less pragmatic courss such as Theory-History are affected due to the volume of information they must convey. Allong with a low overall interest in the subject, there arises a necessity to employ didactic resources to support teaching efforts. One element that might align best in this new educational reality are memes, initially understood as units of information transmission, now evolved into the commonly known humorous and satirical internet images. Understanding this ambivalence of the meme as a tool to support the transmission of academic information through humor, this research introduces the concept of the “Trojan Horse” effect. This study inquires into the versatility of memes as a teaching support tool for the Theory-History 3 course in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Cuenca and their potential effect on students. The proposed methodology establishes guidelines for the implementation of memes in classes and the measurement of their influence, both academically and in students’ perceptions of the course.
