    Seguridad alimentaria y nutricional en la parroquia Nabón del Cantón Nabón, el caso de familias con niños de 1-5 años, Cuenca 2013-2014

    ABSTRACT The main objective of our thesis was to establish the relationship between food security family and their influence on the nutritional status of the children from 1-5 years of parish Nabón, Nabón canton, and province of Azuay. Our thesis was a quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study. Data collection was carried out through a survey of home, where there were children 1 to 5 years, to more than one anthropometric examination. Were surveyed 300 households of which consist 73.7% in rural areas and 26.3% in the urban areas. In turn were associated with the nutritional status of relationship (p < 0.05) the following factors: the own productive land, the type of housing (material of floor and toilet service and its location) and water supply. The 51.7% of the population had low height-for-age, and 27.3% present low weight in relation to age and analyzing a whole found a 31.3% of malnutrition and 6% obesity. The impact of the availability and the access of food were not associated with the nutritional status of children (p > 0.05). However, the prevalence of malnutrition was higher in homes that sell their products and buy food externally and like being overweight. It was noted that in the field of food safety is given the sale of products harvested in the 71.7% of households and the most consumed food category were cereal with an 86%.
