Item Análisis de factores que posibilitan la complementariedad de la oferta turística entre los cantones Cuenca y Azogues en el sur del Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-09-12) Amendaño Tixi, Leslie Fernanda; Llivisaca Araujo, Joseph Angelo; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThe objective of this study was to analyze the factors that allow complementing the tourism offer between the cantons of Cuenca and Azogues in southern Ecuador, since due to their geographical proximity they can work together, with adequate management by their public and private actors. A qualitative approach of exploratory-geographical scope and cross-sectional scope was used. Methodologically, the study started from a bibliographic review to collect information on territorial tourism complementarity, then information was collected through observation, to later map the spatial components of both cantons with shapes available from the Military Geoportal and the Ecuadorian Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), this allowed to understand the territory in an integral way in the perspective of constituting a solid tourist area. Finally, semi-structured interviews were conducted with various actors regarding collaboration opportunities, benefits and barriers, which allowed us to know the possibilities of joint work between Cuenca and Azogues. The data obtained were subjected to hermeneutical analysis using the Atlas.ti version 24 software with graphs on the MIRO platform. The study concludes that, by improving the infrastructure, the tourist plant and articulating a joint management, an area can be constituted that offers tourism products of nature and culture.Item Análisis de la configuración espacial y dinámicas turísticas de los alojamientos de Airbnb en el Centro Histórico de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-15) Campoverde Veloz, Emily Nathaly; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThe objective of this research was to analyze the spatial configuration and tourist dynamics of Airbnb accommodations located in the historic center of Cuenca, through a mixed approach and observational design with exploratory descriptive scope and cross-sectional. In the quantitative phase, we worked with a refined base of 3,136 accommodations, of which 1,984 are active, analyzing variables such as location, prices, services and type of accommodation, while, in the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with hosts, hoteliers, travel agents, residents and representatives of the public sector, which allowed us to understand the perceptions and tensions associated with this type of accommodation. Finally, the research shows that the main motivations are economic opportunity even when it is not their main source of income, strategic location and operational flexibility. Likewise, a market segmentation is identified, in which the most professionalized hosts concentrate the majority of income and reservations. In addition, there is a high concentration of accommodation in the heritage area, with a predominance of complete buildings, with reduced capacity and urban orientation.Item Análisis de la efectividad de la aplicación del programa Pueblos Mágicos en el desarrollo turístico territorial: caso cantón Patate, Tungurahua, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-11-23) Inga Morocho, Camila Monserrath; Orellana Vázquez, Jonnathan Mauricio; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaIn 2018, the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico (SECTUR) authorizes the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador (MINTUR), the implementation of the Magical Towns Ecuador – 4 Worlds program, whose purpose is the identification and enhancement of localities that have tourism potential. For this reason, it becomes a program that promotes competitiveness and facilitates the implementation of strengthening actions in the tourism field, considering that compliance with these basic conditions consolidates public and private investment initiatives (MINTUR, 2018). Considering this premise, in this paper it was decided to analyze the tourist situation of the first canton declared a Magical Town in Ecuador, Patate, and the effectiveness of the program in the tourist development of the territory. The research approach was mixed, that is, qualitative and quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional. To achieve the objectives of the study, first, a diagnosis of the tourist situation of the canton was made through a review of secondary sources of tourist services cadastres, inventories of tourist attractions and tourism figures to determine whether there is or not an increase in supply. Secondly, semi-structured interviews were conducted with actors and stakeholders in the tourism sector, including public authorities of the Municipality of Patate, to identify whether policies, ordinances, regulations, projects or plans, among other tools, have been developed to promote tourism activity in the canton. Finally, surveys were applied to tourists from the Canton of Baños de Agua Santa, due to its high tourist influx and its proximity to the place of study. This, in order to analyze the perception and knowledge of tourists regarding the declaration of Patate as a Magical Town, its tourist attractions and, if the intention of visiting the canton is present. Also, surveys were conducted for the population of Patate to analyze their perception of the Magical Towns program and the benefits that have been generated in the territory. In this way, the study shows the current situation of Patate Canton, in terms of the application of the Magical Towns program; that is, if it has allowed the promotion of tourism development in the town or simply it is a label or an appointment that has remained in theory. Keywords: Magical Town. Patate. Tourism Development.Item Análisis de las manifestaciones culturales vinculadas a la muerte como posibilidad de desarrollo turístico. Caso parroquias rurales del cantón Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-10-20) Quinteros Ramos, Katherine Marisol; Toral Segovia, Nathalia Nicole; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThis research was born from the interest of knowing the cultural manifestations linked to death that take place in a certain place, since they are part of the identity of a community and start from both a historical and cultural context. The study took place in the rural parishes of the canton of Cuenca, since they are territories that house cultural and social events that preserve the collective memory and the intangible tradition of the communities; However, there was a lack of appreciation of the representative manifestations of their society, which must continue in practice, otherwise, it can cause the loss of the cultural identity of the inhabitants. The study was developed using a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional approach, through interviews with various actors, including professionals, important people in the community and the local population, who, with their support, contributed to determine the existence of cultural manifestations linked to death. Thus, the study determined that there is the possibility of integrating funeral practices within a tourism context, taking into account that there must be a balance between local authorities, the receiving community and the territory in question, so that, based on sustainable proposals, it is linked to the ritual practice and allows the possibility of tourism development in the rural parishes of the Cuenca canton. Keywords: culture, death, funerary practices, tourism, rural parishesItem Análisis de los factores limitantes para el desarrollo de la actividad turística en una comunidad del litoral ecuatoriano: Comunidad Santa Marianita, cantón Arenillas, provincia de El Oro, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-09-17) Alvarado Salazar, María Paz; Loayza Ramírez, Melanie Solange; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThis project arises from the need to understand the factors that prevent tourism development in a territory, for this purpose the community of Santa Marianita located in canton Arenillas, province of El Oro, where the absence of tourism has been observed despite having tourist potential. In this context, the following objectives were proposed: to understand the factors that limit the development of tourism typologies in rural environments from a theoretical perspective; to explore the perception of the actors of the community of Santa Marianita regarding tourism activity; and to identify the obstacles and challenges that the community faces in promoting tourism as a path to local development. The methodology had a qualitative approach of exploratory-descriptive and cross-sectional scope. To this end, a bibliographic review and a mapping of actors were initially used to know those involved and their position on the subject of study, on the other hand, semi-structured interviews were carried out with key actors, the data obtained were analyzed using the Atlas.ti software, version 24. Concluding that the limiting factors for tourism development are the lack of leadership and organization in the community, the indifference of external agents, and the lack of insertion of the community in the tourism market, due to its incipient tourism system. Consequently, these factors generate internal conflicts, socioeconomic inequality, and insecurity, thus contributing to the absence of tourism development in the community.Item Análisis del Programa de Pueblos Mágicos como una política pública: una visión desde el desarrollo turístico en la ciudad de Zaruma(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-03-21) Trujillo Andrade, Daniela Fernanda; Vivar Maldonado, Karla Lisseth; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaIn 2001, Mexico implemented the Magical Towns Program in order to promote those destinations with unique characteristics present within its territory, obtaining almost immediate success. Said program was implemented years later in the territory of Ecuador, in order to promote competitiveness and strengthen its tourism sector, thus achieving 21 destinations, among which is the city of Zaruma. However, the development obtained within the city from its nomination is not perceptible over the years. Therefore, in the present work the Pueblos Mágicos Program was analyzed as a public policy, evaluating its role in the tourist development of the city of Zaruma. For this, a mixed approach methodology, descriptive scope and cross section was used, with intentional sampling and simple random sampling, in addition to the use of tools such as: interviews, bibliographic review, surveys and cartography. Resulting in that, three years after its declaration, the actions of the program have been null, becoming a purely promotional strategy lacking an adequate management plan. For this reason, the collaboration of the Government together with the authorities of Zaruma is recommended for the approach of public policies and action strategies according to the needs of the territories. Keywords: magical town, public policy, tourism development, tourist destination, ZarumaItem Desarrollo sostenible del turismo en la Comunidad Shuar Tsuer Entsa, su relación con el territorio y su identidad cultural(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-03-30) Pando Guamán, Jennifer Elizabeth; Rivera Sojos, Nelly Carmita; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaSince the beginning of the 21st century, according to the United Nations (2015) in its Millennium Development Goals, it considers Community Based Tourism (CBT) as a means of sustainable development whose purpose is to eliminate poverty based on its fundamental pillars: environmental, economic, social and institutional. Although tourism is considered a means of development, it has been shown that not all communities are ready to implement tourist activities when there is no cohesion between the pillars of sustainable development. Therefore, this research seeks to describe the sustainable development of tourism in the Shuar Tsuer Entsa community and how its deterritorialization process and cultural identity influence territorial dynamics. In this way, the present study seeks to understand the reason why the Shuar Tsuer Entsa community, which, in its 20 years of tourism history does not have a sustainable development in the tourism field, and how deterritorialization and cultural identity are related to it, where behaviors such as: paternalism, conformism, alcoholism, little associativity, among others, prevent a proper sustainable tourism development of the community are presented. For it, a methodology with a qualitative approach, exploratory scope and ethnographic design will be used. KEYWORDS: Sustainable development, Territory, Deterritorialization, Cultural Identity, Community Tourism.Item El fenómeno de turistificación en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador: un estudio aplicado a la calle Santa Ana y sus alrededores(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-12) Arguello Moscoso, Aida Elizabeth; Guanolique Álvarez, Inés Camila; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThe objective of this study was to analyze the phenomenon of touristification in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, specifically in Santa Ana Street and its surroundings; through an observational design with a qualitative approach of exploratory-descriptive scope and crosssectional. The research was divided into three stages, first, the bibliographic review of indexed data and physical literature corresponding to the touristification process related to the stakeholder theory was carried out. Afterwards, a process of participant observation was developed and semi-structured interviews were conducted with the actors related to the tourist and social activity, selected for convenience. And, finally, the changes made in the urban structure around the tourist offer were recognized, between periods of five years after the declaration of the Historic Center to the present, through cartography. The results of the research show that there is touristification in a stage of incipient saturation-conflict, evidenced by the changes in the heritage space, the increase in the tourist offer, the increase in prices caused by the saturation of tourists and the loss of authenticity and cultural identity; however, it can still be manageable with the proper regulations and controls focused on balancing the needs of the community and tourism activity.Item El potencial turístico de la medicina ancestral como posible atractor y complemento de la actividad turística en el cantón Saraguro, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-11) Bermeo Maldonado, Michelle Carolina; Cornejo Coronel, Evelyn Ximena; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThe objective of this study is to explore the tourism potential of ancestral medicine, considering its cultural value and its role in strengthening the identity of the Saraguro people. Ancestral medicine, an intangible cultural heritage, is developed in indigenous communities that encompass physical, emotional, spiritual and mental healing practices through yachaks, based on millenary knowledge and the Andean worldview. A qualitative approach was used with an observational design, exploratory-descriptive in scope and cross-sectional. The study was based on a physical and online literature search. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews in the territory and virtually, with actors directly involved with the practices of ancestral medicine and the tourism sector, as well as with people who are not linked to these activities, in order to know different perspectives regarding the research, these interviews took place in the community of Ilincho and the cantonal capital. Finally, the data obtained were subjected to hermeneutic analysis using the ATLAS.ti version 24 software and interpreted using semantic networks on the MIRO platform. The study concludes that ancestral medicine has a tourist potential, however, key aspects must be considered to maintain authenticity.Item Estudio para la implementación de atractivos turísticos culturales en el barranco de Cuenca(2012) Ramón Auquilla, Viviana; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaItem Estudio para la incorporación de la central hidroeléctrica Paute al desarrollo de turismo de naturaleza(2011) Manosalvas Durán, Fernanda E.; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaItem Evaluación del turismo comunitario en el desarrollo económico, social y cultural en las comunidades de Parcoloma y Chilca Totora de la parroquia Tarqui(2011) Cabrera Tigre, Fausto Lusiano; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaItem Exploración de las expectativas de los residentes del cantón Sevilla de Oro frente al turismo como medio de desarrollo local(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-10-20) Amón Vicuña, Anaís Patricia; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThis research is based on the need to determine the potential of tourism as a dynamizer of the economy for the development of a territory. The study takes place in the canton Sevilla de Oro which, initially, is perceived as an emerging canton in the tourist activity. In this context, the expectations of the residents of the Sevilla de Oro canton regarding tourism as a means of local development were known through the following sections, (1) define the degree of tourist vocation of the canton; (2) analyze the perspective of the direct and indirect actors of tourism activity in the canton; and (3) identify the prospective of the GAD of Sevilla de Oro in the tourism field. To this end, a qualitative approach of descriptive-exploratory scope and cross-sectional was proposed, through the application of a tool to measure the tourist vocation and semi-structured interviews. The data had a hermeneutic analysis of semantic networks using Atlas.ti version 23 software. It was concluded that the canton Sevilla de Oro lacks a tourism vocation, although has considerable tourist potential. However, the under-utilization of resources, insufficient management by the authorities, the widespread lack of knowledge of the population, and the dependence on those in positions of power has hindered the progress of tourism in the canton. Consequently, despite the high expectations of the residents of the canton, they focus exclusively on the generation of economic resources, considering tourism only as a financial benefit and not as a means to boost local development. Keywords: tourism, local development, residents, planning, participationItem Influencia de la minería en la dinámica turística del cantón Zaruma, El Oro, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-09-13) Carrión Sánchez, María Eduarda; Pesantez Pérez, María José; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThis research originated from the interest in understanding the influence of mining on the tourism dynamics of the Zaruma canton, in the province of El Oro, Ecuador. This mining activity is fundamental to the cultural identity of the territory, and its impact on tourism deserves a detailed analysis. The study was carried out using a qualitative approach with an exploratory and cross-sectional scope. Interviews were conducted with local actors, public and private managers, whose contributions were essential to determine the influence of mining activity on the tourism dynamics of the canton. The study revealed a lack of regulation by the authorities, which has led to the loss of heritage buildings and, consequently, a decrease in the tourist flow. Finally, the actors involved agree that mining activity can coexist in a balanced way with tourism, as long as the ordinances established in the exclusion zone are complied with and it is carried out responsibly.Item Influencia de los conflictos limítrofes en la gestión del turismo como medio de desarrollo sostenible en las comunidades Luz y Guía, Zhagal y Camacho de las provincias Azuay y Guayas(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-01-18) Arias Rodas, Mateo Sebastian; Jarama Criollo, Andrea Carolina; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThe management of tourism products located in border areas with territorial problems are topics little considered by researchers, since the vast majority focus on the analysis of tourist destinations outside this territorial location. This graduation work aims to determine the influence of border conflicts on the management of tourism as a means of sustainable development between the border enclave Azuay and Guayas (Luz y Guía-Zhagal and Camacho sectors), through a qualitative and cross-sectional study. To achieve the main objective, the factors involved in the tourist activity of the surrounding communities were identified through a bibliographic contrast of public documents, agreements, laws and academic articles related to the territory. A non-probabilistic sample was established at convenience for the application of qualitative research tools such as semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, the sociocultural problems of the area were described and the perceptions of the stakeholders regarding the application of a joint and associative work for the benefit of tourism were analyzed, through a hermeneutic study of semantic networks elaborated in the Software Atlas.ti 8.4.24. It is concluded that provincial and cantonal border conflicts accentuate problems of associativity, regionalism, resources possession and community rivalry. Such conflicts, coupled with little government intervention and superficial tourism planning, prevent the territories involved from developing in social, environmental, tourism and economical aspects. Therefore, it is essential that there is a closer link between stakeholders and with the territory, in order to improve the tourism offer. Finally, it is imperative that a territorial agreement be drawn up that integrates the perspectives and opinions of the different communities immersed in the border dispute. Keywords: border conflicts, community, tourism, border, cooperationItem Inventario de atractivos de la parroquia de San Pedro de Quingeo, patrimonio cultural del Ecuador(2011) Reiban Corrales, Karina Elizabeth; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaItem Inventario de atractivos del cantón Camilo Ponce Enriquez y elaboración de material promocional(2009) Barzallo Cuesta, María Fernanda; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaItem Inventario y modelo de señalización de la hacienda hosteria el Hato para el desarrollo de un circuito turístico(2009) Riquetti Carrasco, Margarita; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaItem La función de los planes de desarrollo turístico en la toma de decisiones para el desarrollo del turismo, caso de estudio cantón Cuenca, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-11) Saldaña Pillco, Andrés Sebastián; Orbe Ortiz, Lauro Sebastián; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes KarinaThe objective of this study was to determine the role of tourism development plans in decision-making for tourism development, taking canton Cuenca, Ecuador, as a case study. A qualitative approach of exploratory - descriptive scope and longitudinal section was used, which included an analysis in three phases; the first phase included a theoretical review on the importance of having tourism development plans for the decision-making of tourist destinations, in the second pase, the gaps that exist between tourism development plans and the management and accountability reports around the function of tourism planning that have been prepared in the canton of Cuenca were identified. Finally, semi-structured interviews were conducted with key informants and local authorities responsible for tourism planning in the canton of Cuenca, to explore different perspectives regarding the role of tourism development plans in decision-making, as well as to identify the gaps that limit their impact and effectiveness in the local context. The data obtained were subjected to a hermeneutical analysis through Atlas software. Ti version 25, where Sankey graphs were also generated to facilitate the visualization of results. Concluding that tourism plans can be effective tools to guarantee a comprehensive and balanced development of tourism activity in a territory, as long as their strategies and actions are formulated in accordance with the available resources, the needs and potentialities of the territory, as well as the interests of the different actors in the sector, to ensure that everyone benefits from this activity and achieve joint development in a sustainable way, avoiding obstacles and problems in the future, derived from poor management and planning of tourism activity.Item Manual operativo de procesos para hoteles(2012) Sanisaca Pérez, Carlos Eduardo; Farfán Pacheco, Lourdes Karina
