The geographic space of study did not have this tool and according to the methodology of inventories proposed by the governing body of Ecuador, this project was proposed by both, the cantonal authorities and the academy. Attractions were inventoried, then classified, weighted and hierarchized, after resorted to zoning and grouping tourist attractions in different territorial spaces. As a result of this project, ten of the fifteen attractions offered by the cantonal government were obtained, because some of them are considered only resources. Out of the ten attractions, two are cultural and eight are natural, including the hydroelectric dams of the Paute-Integral project. Finally, the information obtained will be used by the cantonal GAD for tourism planning and management projects.Item Análisis de la gobernanza del turismo vinculada a criterios de liderazgo, participación e involucramiento de los stakeholders. Caso de estudio: Cuenca, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-10-20) Ordóñez Ordóñez, Stephany Pamela; Quiroga Coronel, Evelyn Dayanna; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis study arises from the need to analyze tourism governance linked to criteria of leadership, participation and involvement of stakeholders in times of crisis in the city of Cuenca. The research proposed to identify the factors that influence tourism governance, exploring the relationship between leadership and legitimacy between public and private tourism actors, recognizing the mechanisms of collective participation of stakeholders and analyzing their role in tourism planning and crisis management processes. The methodology had a qualitative approach of exploratory - descriptive scope, the cut was cross-sectional between February and May 2023. The tools were semi-structured interviews applied to a sample at convenience: public (9) and private (6) actors. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that tourism decisions made by the public sector lack legitimacy, there is rivalry between the public and private sectors and leaders prioritize their own interests. In addition, there is no involvement of civil society in decision-making, participation mechanisms are limited to empty chairs and working tables between specific actors. The role of stakeholders is reduced to the socialization of imposed decisions and theoretical and technical approval is requested from academia. In times of crisis, the public and private sectors manifest associativity. In general terms, there is no tourism governance in the city, legitimacy is manufactured, decisions are unilateral and influenced by political capital for the benefit of actors with greater economic capital. Keywords: stakeholders, legitimacy, economic capital, political capital, decision makingItem Análisis de la percepción de las partes interesadas del turismo sobre las señales de advertencia contra la delincuencia en el Centro Histórico de Cuenca, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-15) Narváez Rodríguez, Joseline del Cisne; Padilla Orellana, Fabricio Israel; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis study examines the perceptions of tourism stakeholders regarding crime warning signs, in the Historic Center of Cuenca, to understand their impact on tourist areas. A theoretical review of academic literature on security in tourism spaces was first conducted. The research followed a qualitative, observational, and cross-sectional approach using three tools: participant observation, photovoice, and semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate that warning signs serve dual purposes: they function as preventive tools in security management and also influence the perceived safety of both visitors and residents. Furthermore, their strategic placement throughout the Historic Center enhances their effectiveness; however, variations in design and messaging led to differing interpretations.Item Análisis de las estrategias públicas de turismo rural durante la crisis sanitaria en las parroquias rurales de: San Joaquín, Baños, Turi y Nulti del cantón Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-04-06) Astudillo Vallejo, Evelyn Tamara; Guachún Arévalo, Ana Cristina; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis research was carried out in four rural parishes that are: Turi, Nulti, San Joaquín and Baños within the Cuenca canton, since there have been actions by the public, private companies and people of the parishes during the time of pandemic in the tourism sector. The main objective of the research is to analyze the situation of public strategies implemented in rural tourism during the health crisis in the city already mentioned above. The methodology used in this research had a qualitative, exploratory and cross-sectional approach through semi-structured interviews. The analysis of individual opinions of the representatives was applied, contrasting their experiences until a general opinion on public strategies could be established. The study allowed to observe and analyze the transcendence of the new projects created in pandemic for the enjoyment of visitors, as well as the scope and permanence in time of the new actions of public officials in these four rural parishes. As a result, problems of organization and disengagement between the actors were obtained. That has resulted in strategies and actions that do not last over time. Keywords: Rural tourism. Public sector. Tourism promotion. Rural communities. COVID-19Item Análisis de las Prácticas de Ocio y Turismo realizadas por las personas en condición de Pobreza Absoluta en la parroquia urbana de San Sebastián del cantón Cuenca, año 2019(2020-07-16) Encalada Arévalo, Carlos Andrés; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis research seeks to describe families in absolute poverty in the urban parish of San Sebastian in Cuenca canton, Ecuador, through their perceptions of tourism and heritage and the analysis of leisure and tourism practices. The study has a mixed approach, that is, a quantitative cross-sectional type, with probabilistic and correlational depth. First, families in absolute poverty were identified through participatory assemblies, followed by a characterization of poverty within these households. Secondly, the tourist and heritage perceptions were obtained through a hermeneutic analysis forming semantic networks using Atlas.ti 8 software. Finally, the leisure and tourism practices of households living in absolute poverty were determined through the statistical formulation of decision trees in the SPSS 24 software. It was concluded that absolute poverty limits the right to leisure, recreation, rest and paid holidays, despite the fact that this is a constitutional right in Ecuador and a human right. Therefore, this part of the population needs to be more involved in planning the tourism sector by incorporating public policy based on inclusive and social tourism.Item Análisis de los procesos de innovación en la educación superior en turismo posterior a la pandemia Covid-19. Una Revisión Sistemática de la Literatura (RSL)(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-11) Pillco Fajardo, Tania Estefanía; Yanza Miranda, Dayana Alexandra; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis study focused on analyzing the situation of innovation in higher education in tourism through a systematic review of literature. The objective was to analyze the innovation processes in higher education in the field of tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic. This study used an analysis based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) method to perform a systematic literature review (SLR) based on Scopus databases. As a result, a theoretical reflection on the study was obtained, as well as the bibliometric analysis of 20 documents from 2019 to 2024. Trends in innovation in higher education and tourism were also identified as a line of research. It was concluded that Covid-19 was a trigger for disruptive innovations. Profound changes in higher education in tourism occur slowly and depending on the educational systems, which shows that it is necessary to break the academic bubble and integrate into real scenarios of tourism activity. Thus, innovation in tourism education has an incremental nature, lately focused on the implementation of artificial intelligence.Item Análisis del empoderamiento y participación comunitaria en comunidades rurales que apuestan por el turismo como medio de desarrollo. caso estudio: comunidad Migüir. Azuay, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-11-22) Medina Ulloa, Marilyn Elizabeth; Peñafiel Gordillo, Leslie Cynthia; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis study analyzes the factors of empowerment and community participation of rural communities in sustainable development processes through tourism. It starts from the needs of the communities to strengthen the factors of empowerment and mechanisms of participation, considering that tourism has become an important activity to achieve their income. The project takes as a case study the community of Migüir located in the buffer zone of the Cajas National Park which belongs to the parish of Molleturo, canton Cuenca, province of Azuay in Ecuador. The research approach is qualitative of exploratory scope. As a first point, a mapping of the tourism actors will be carried out and semi-structured interviews will be carried out with the main stakeholders of the community in question. The study shows that the main limitation for empowerment is the lack of involvement and support in communities by the public sector. In addition, it shows how tourism activities tend to be downplayed in rural areas, making known the complexity that exists when it comes to organization in tourism issues. It is also made known how community participation could improve the organization between actors, empowering communities that bet on tourism. According to the statistics of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the number of young tourists will increase to a total of 370 millon by 2020. As a result, young people will generate tourism revenues estimated at US $400 billon that will contribute to the economy of each of the tourism-receiving countries. Caso de estudio: Comunidad de Caguanapamba, Cañar, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-12) Quintuña Zaruma, Yatziry Pakarina; Rivas Saca, Anthony Alejandro; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis research explored the dynamics of access to the tourism market by the community of Caguanapamba, Cañar, Ecuador, which is committed to community-based tourism. The methodology used had a qualitative observational approach with an exploratory-descriptive scope of cross-sectional section based on four mini-focus groups aimed at community members and six semi-structured interviews with external actors related to the community at the public and private levels. The Atlas Ti 25 system was used as an analysis tool. The results show that the dynamics are complex and structurally unequal, marked by hierarchies of power. Indeed, state agencies and institutions, while recognizing the cultural value of communities, do not generate equitable practices. This causes, on the one hand, that communities must adapt their offers to a conventional commercial model to access markets and, on the other hand, legal barriers force them to adapt to external logics that are not always compatible with their community vision. However, it is important to mention that communities that have weaknesses in TBC factors such as community organization and leadership in tourism aspects tend to have more difficulties in developing and accessing markets.Item Dinámicas de liderazgo enfocadas en el rol de las mujeres en el contexto de turismo comunitario. Caso de estudio: Sisid Anejo, Cañar, Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-12) Espinoza Espinoza, Ivonne Paola; Miranda Quizhpi, Erika Daniela; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis study seeks to understand how the roles assumed by women influence the development and strengthening of community tourism in the indigenous community of Sisid Anejo, in the province of Cañar, Ecuador. To this end, a qualitative study of an exploratory and descriptive nature was carried out, using focus groups and participant observation. Women directly linked to tourism, and women from the community who are not related to this activity, participated in the focus groups, which allowed for a broader and more diverse vision of the existing social and cultural dynamics. The results show that, although women play a fundamental role in the daily operation of the community tourism center, their roles are mainly concentrated in operational and support tasks, while the positions of higher hierarchy and decision-making continue to be occupied mostly by men. In addition, women face a double workload, combining the productive tasks of tourism with domestic responsibilities, many of which are unpaid. Male migration has increased these burdens, creating new challenges and opportunities for female participation. However, the lack of public policies with a gender perspective limits their empowerment and recognition. Despite these obstacles, participation in tourism and community support have contributed to initial processes of economic autonomy and female leadership in the community.Item Dinámicas y prácticas de los viajeros procedentes de Argentina que visitan el cantón Cuenca 2019-2020(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-01-29) Córdova Cando, Grace Victoria; Ruiz Álvarez, Dalia Coralia; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis work arises from the need to know: how do Argentinean backpackers visiting the canton Cuenca 2019 -2020 develop their trips? Therefore, backpackers, being a different and more frequent segment should be considered within the tourist planning of the city.Item Distribución territorial de la oferta de alojamiento de AIRBNB: densidad y evolución en Cuenca, Ecuador(2019-06-03) Barreto Berrezueta, Karina Gissella; Panamá Laso, Jennifer Carolina; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThe present research study seeks to determine the density and evolution of Airbnb accommodation in the canton Cuenca, on the basis of the variables like location, georeferencing, and offer, type of infrastructure and year of creation, upon a quantitative approach of descriptive-spatial scope. The research comes from the need to determine the amount of accommodations and its growth in the last eight years (2011-2018). Through this study, 376 unregulated Airbnb accommodations were found distributed over 240 houses and 136 buildings, which are offered in 66 full houses, 167 rooms and 160 apartments. The software used is Arc GIS version 10.4 for plotting the findings. Strategies to control this global phenomenon in the city of Cuenca are insufficient; the local government does not have studies on them. Different strategies were obtained divided in activities, which give way to 12 projects. The research process shows that people with hearing disabilities have a motivation, knowledge of the Spanish language, recommendations for an inclusive museum, however, when they have visited the museum they do not have the necessary conditions to have an accessible visit and, therefore, they prefer a sign language interpreter who can help with their visit; on the other hand, it is proposed a validated script on mediation that could help the understanding of the museum by people with hearing impairment.Item Exploración de conflictos y compromisos vinculados a la asociatividad y la cooperación de actores locales en procesos de desarrollo sostenible mediante el turismo en la parroquia Naranjal, Guayas, Ecuador, 2020-2021(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-01-10) Mejía Mayancela, Paulina Noemí; Granda Ortega, Mónica Nathaly; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarThis research is based on the need to generate knowledge on associativity and cooperation in tourism as means that contribute to development in a given territory. This case study has place in the rural area of Cantón Naranjal, Guayas, a territory that houses several actors, who have shown some interest in taking joint actions to improve the tourist offer. However, these efforts have been affected by a marked decrease in the initial interest of the actors, passive participation, lack of confidence from past experiences, disunity, lack of empowerment for resource use, poor infrastructure, organization incipient and inadequate public management around tourism policies in the territory. For this, interviews were conducted semi-structured with the actors through a non-probabilistic sample at convenience. The data were subjected to hermeneutical analysis by means of the Atlas.ti version 8 software. Based on that, the research aims to question whether the consensus between actors allows establishing common objectives to generate development through tourism, the achievement of which motivates action collective and strengthens the social capital of a territory. Keywords: associativity, tourism, social capital, development, action collective, Naranjal, conflict.Item Exploración de la contribución de las estadísticas al desarrollo del turismo en la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-04-04) Loja Pando, Cristopher Alexander; Ledesma Villacis, Dayana Jhesael; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy EdgarAt present, statistics is a fundamental tool for making decisions in the field of tourism development.
