Item Creación de una guía metodológica, para la enseñanza artística a nivel de bachillerato desde el estudio del método DBAE y Residencias Artísticas(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-07-25) Auquilla Ávila, María Cristina; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséThe analysis of Arts Education within the country in different educational institutions denotes the degree of importance given to artistic education in the educational process of the student and allows us to know the evolution of the Cultural and Artistic Education curriculum that was established by the public educational system, which is little used by teachers in different educational centers. At present, the importance given to Arts Education is reflected through the use of the new curriculum of Cultural and Arts Education, which was established as a support and guide with information and didactic and artistic activities that must be developed under the tutelage of teachers with experience and knowledge on how to use art as a means to create spaces for expression and learning; however, we are facing a scenario in which the subject not only does not have the value it should have in the educational system, but is also taught by teachers of subjects such from other areas of specialization, who are only subject to the need to complete working hours. The problem of not having teachers with degrees in Arts becomes a challenge that hinders the educational processes and prevents the proper use of a method that meets the expectations of students interested in the subject. For this reason, this degree work proposes a methodological guide as a tool for teachers who do not have experience in the field of visual arts and who in this way can teach without difficulty through a joint work with their students that allows them to successfully develop the activities.Item Cuento para despertar: álbum ilustrado digital sobre la violencia contra la mujer en Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-02-06) Ojeda Jaramillo, Katherin Jorleny; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséThe following work exposes the process of research, conceptualization and creation of the project Stories to wake up: Tales of violence against women in Ecuador, In which, based on the investigation of statistics on gender violence, testimonies and experiences of women close to my social circle, I build a digital illustrated album that show various situations of violence and invisibilization towards women, serving as educational material that invites the viewer to reflect and criticize, but subtly commemorating all those women of the past who fought from their positions to give us the tools we have today and that, as women aware of the system in which we live and of which we are active agents, we continue to fight for a future free of violence, discrimination and gender inequality.Item Enriquecimiento ecuatoriano iconográfico del arte NFT, para el fortalecimiento de la participación nacional en las dinámicas de la cultura visual actual(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-14) López Castillo, Jefferson Mentor; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséContemporary art is driving transformations through the production and artistic dissemination in increasingly digitized markets, with markedly global languages, in need of iconographic enrichments from national identities as a legitimate form of cultural survival. Therefore, it has been proposed to enrich the practice of NFTs (Token No Fungible) in Spanish, which translates to "Non-Fungible Tokens" in English in an interpretative, symbolic, and cultural way, by incorporating Ecuadorian iconographies. This aims to increase Ecuador's participation in the dynamics of the current visual culture. Through the use of new technologies in artistic production, such as artificial intelligence and digital design tools, dynamism is brought to the experimentation, production, and visual construction of this digital work. Thus, "Postal NFT: Ecuador" creates four series of NFTs dedicated, respectively, to the Coast, the Sierra, the Amazon, and the Galápagos, each composed of 16 illustrations of representative flora and fauna. This proposal revives the already lost practice of national postage stamps and suggests the novel possibility of digital philatelic collecting. The aesthetic experience leads to enjoying the microcosm of a unique biodiversity, serving as a window for personal identification with culture and the development of an essential admiration for the indigenous. This is facilitated by a treatment that highlights the beautiful, the expressive, and the symbolic. Simultaneously, the international digital art market is enriched by a proposal that asserts the right of the national to its participation and enrichment of artistic discourses in the global Visual Culture of our timeItem Experimentación estética Inocencia/Barbarie con el Juego de Carnaval y la actividad militar infantil, como crítica visual a prácticas sociales contemporáneas(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-02-27) Cedillo Novillo, Pablo Gustavo; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséWar is a global problem that has expanded to involve children. Countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Colombia have seen thousands of child soldiers in the ranks of paramilitary groups, removed from a childhood where it is possible to live through play, deprived of their innocence. In this context, we propose to construct a visual artistic critique of social manifestations of cruelty, starting from the Carnival Game (as a veiled form of symbolic violence) and child military activity, through an aesthetic experiment based on the relationship between Innocence and Barbarism. From left to right, a mixed scenario is proposed, with a transition from children playing carnival to others in the midst of war rubble. Carnival elements are transformed, through visual metaphors, into real weapons. A gloomy atmosphere is created in which the children take on gray tones, typical of lifeless bodies, and what is a festive scene is sinisterly transformed into an act of violence. Through this contrast between play and war, a sinister aesthetic experience is created, inviting the viewer to reflect and question.Item Galería Ocupa: diseño de modelo de gestión piloto para la reactivación de espacios en desuso con fines culturales y expositivos(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-06-09) Abril Zamora, María Eduarda; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséCulture is a very broad concept, exquisite and applicable to many areas of life. But what happens when those who practice it as a profession are affected by its systematization? Depending on each local context this reality may vary. However in Cuenca (Ecuador) as well as in several other cities, there is a lack of attention towards the emerging sector: artists, cultural managers, art curators and prosumers in general. The life of the independent cultural worker is a constant flux between stability and instability, multiple employment, casual jobs and lack of opportunities; but a common denominator among cultural workers is their creative and resistance capacity, to raise their voices facing injustice and to act through art. The present work, concluded in the production of the Proyexis, cultural management for independent galleries and exhibitors manual, seeks to propose alternative forms of management, knowledge and action tools, rights bases and more as a response to the precariousness of art labors. This, starting from the investigation conducted and narrated in the present document: from an analysis of the local cultural situation, to a study of the chromatic used in the final product.Item Iconografía Valdivia: vestuario femenino y estampado experimental(2016) Hurtado Sarmiento, Verónica Ximena; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséThis paper aims to use the graphical processes of pre-Columbian art as a source of creation with the intention of preserve and innovate our roots using applied arts, so I was done a limited collection of three female locker rooms, the colection focused on the following types of silhouettes: insinuating , adherent and geometric. The pieces are based on an analysis of the iconography of the Valdivia Culture for decoration, using two printing techniques block and screen printing while its design is based on the study of Meggers, Evans, and Estrada 1965 on the Venus of the same cultureItem Propuesta artística contemporánea sobre el lenguaje simbólico floral como medio de visibilización de la violencia doméstica hacia la mujer(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-03-16) Bonete Arias, Martha Carolina; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséDomestic violence against women constitutes one of the most persistent structural problems in Ecuador. Gender roles, rigidly constructed and historically entrenched, have contributed to the perpetuation of stigma surrounding the reporting and public visibility of this form of violence. Within this framework, the present project seeks to foreground domestic violence against women as a negative phenomenon of our historical moment, through a contemporary artistic proposal grounded in experimentation and in the creative production of symbolic and communicative codes articulated through visual representations of plant life. Accordingly, the project presents a series of nine floral still lifes featuring encoded messages, conceived as an artistic work that reinterprets the language of flowers within the context of intimate partner violence. From both functional and symbolic perspectives, floriography—historically employed as a form of covert communication in contexts of emotional repression—is reclaimed in order to resignify its traditionally romantic or decorative associations. Flowers thus emerge as vehicles of denunciation, capable of exposing dynamics of control, submission, and silence that have been naturalized within the affective and social imaginary, particularly in relation to women.Item Propuesta artística relacional enfocada a la educación de niños y niñas para contribuir a la prevención de la violencia sexual(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-06) Román Olivo, Emily Fernanda; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséOne of the most violated rights of children is that of protection from any form of mistreatment; Especially sexual abuse. According to the Ecuadorian attorney general's office, in 2021, on average, 14 reports of rape were received per day; Of these, at least 3 against girls under 14. These figures do not prove all the cases, as many are not even reported. In this context, we decided to design a participative-relational experience with boys and girls, through the use of an interactive manual focused on the prevention of sexual violence against children in the country. Between all of us we care is the result of the mediation process in an educational institution, which handled the ideology of community art, gamification and aesthetic nutrition in educational environments to link them to the subject, through an interactive manual that, from illustration and participation, artistically communicates advice on possible situations of vulnerability, while encouraging denunciation in case of suffering them. The installation consists of several illustrations with the same aesthetic used in the manual, which account for the mediation process itself developed. With such integration, an aesthetic experience of evident educational function is strengthened, without a doubt systematized in terms of greater social achievementsItem Propuesta escultórica en representación del cuerpo femenino centrada en las tensiones visuales entre erotismo y censura en el arte contemporáneo(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-02-23) Barrera Chacón, Stiven Javier; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséCensorship in art has historically been used as a control mechanism that has conditioned the sensual representation of the female body. Although in the contemporary context a discourse of freedom of expression is promoted, there persist forms of censorship (religious, political, media and social) that regulate the visible and demand the constant justification of eroticism in art. In this context, a visual critique is constructed, from art, to the contemporary discourses of censorship around the female body and sexuality, through a sculptural proposal that works with an ambiguous aesthetic of the erotic. In the central part is a sculpture, whose visual language refers to the prehistoric Venus, through a voluminous body and an abstract head. Around the sculpture, in a glass casing, there are open books related to freedom of expression and the various mechanisms of censorship. This set establishes a thought between the sculptural body and the systems that have historically regulated its representation, inviting the viewer to meditate about the body as a territory of symbolic dispute.Item Propuesta visual contemporánea para una actuación social más solidaria e inclusiva hacia las personas con discapacidad motora(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-03-07) García Guzmán, Camila Isabel; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséThis degree project addresses the creation and placement in public space of the transdisciplinary artistic installation titled Pantone 293C—a codification of a shade of blue widely used in accessibility signage—with the aim of contributing to a more supportive and inclusive social approach towards people with motor disabilities. The proposal focuses on generating an immersive aesthetic experience through the reinterpretation of physical architectural barriers faced by this population group, which lead to emotional barriers that hinder a full life. Based on ideothematic, morphological, and expressive principles, the artwork integrates concepts of relational art, contextual art, participatory art, performance art, and ephemeral art and architecture to create a multisensory experience. The project explores the role of play in art as a strategy to encourage critical reflection among participants, emphasizing art's capacity to promote more sensitive and socially proactive education. The audience navigated a sequence of spaces, producing social exchange that promoted empathy and solidarity, hence highlighting the contribution of art to the promotion of human rights and social inclusion from an innovative and transformative perspective.Item Propuesta visual ilustrativa sobre la violencia de género en el contexto familiar desde una visión autoetnográfica(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-03-12) Chunchi Lojano, Evelyn Tatiana; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséIn Ecuador, gender-based violence is rampant. At least 6 out of 10 women have experienced it in some form throughout their lives, and this not only directly affects the victim, but also their family environment. In this context, we set out to create an aesthetic experience that would raise awareness based on a visual autoethnographic testimony in digital illustration about gender-based violence in the family environment, in order to raise public awareness by projecting the intimate onto the collective. A diptych with complementary illustrations was provided. On the left, fear and vulnerability are explored through a closed composition. On the right, calm and reconstruction are depicted through an open layout, balance, and calm gestures. Both develop symbolic elements and a pastel color palette as a way of exploring the unconscious and narrating the issue in a non-literal way. As an aesthetic experience, the aim is to create a sense of empathy and reflection, inviting recognition of violence not only as a social fact, but also as an intimate experience that permeates the body and memory. Using Cyanotype and Upcycling to Raise Awareness of the Environmental Impact of Denim” is about applied arts design, mixing creativity, sustainability, and social impact. The main goal was to create artistic ideas using the cyanotype technique and upcycling principles to think about the environmental effects of making and using denim. With a method that included research, technical experiments, and critical analysis, the project created artistic and functional pieces. These pieces turned waste materials into visual stories with a focus on sustainability. During the process, skills in areas like aesthetics, photography, drawing, painting, and installation were improved. The pieces are not only beautiful but also share messages about the environmental problems of the textile industry. The project also gives value to waste materials, offering new ways to think about art, design, and the environment. The documentation shows the results and creates a model for conscious creation. This work wants to contribute to applied arts by mixing artistic ideas, social responsibility, and care for the environment, offering a new way to design sustainably.Item Tomemos un café: recopilación web de un proyecto artístico, relacional y participativo sobre la invisibilización de la mujer en Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-02-27) Jiménez Burneo, Sofía Anabell; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséWith the purpose of approaching the violent language that excludes women in Ecuador in a creative manner, this project has the goal of creating a web site that shows collective creation processes. How is it possible to study this problem from another perspective, different from the book writers'? The development of the relational practice session called Hablemos de lo invisible was implemented in the Ecuadorian cities: Loja and Cuenca with a women's group that was formed to dialogue about different moments when they have felt put aside, to create a collage based on those experiences. Thus, the web compilation called Tomemos un café, revealed the possibility of constructing concrete languages that demonstrate new ways to understand the world through an aesthetic sensibility and in a gender focused manner. Therefore, unveiling an experimental, procedural and interdisciplinary production.Item Tratamiento artístico de la contaminación del río Tomebamba (Cuenca- Ecuador) para la consideración del cuidado hídrico(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Artes, 2026-01-18) León Illescas, Juan Andrés; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséThis thesis project is a transdisciplinary artistic project that seeks to denounce a problem and raise awareness among viewers through photography: the pollution of the Tomebamba River (Cuenca, Ecuador). The iconography presents a narrative of memory through the creation and experimentation of media based on the chemical results of analog photography development. Hence, the main objective was to create a transdisciplinary artistic project based on photography of the pollution of the Tomebamba River, using evidence of garbage in the water and developing photographs using the cyanotype technique on them. This is a research project that seeks to conceptualize, in a visual and sensory way based on field studies, the degree of pollution in the river as it flows through the city, from the Llaviuco sector, located in Cajas National Park, to the Monay Urban Parish sector. In this context, the aim is to link nature, art, and viewers through experimental photography of a documentary and artistic nature.Item Un método de arte relacional para la concienciación de los derechos infantiles y la pobreza en Ecuador desde la ilustración y arte objeto(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-02-15) Monje Narváez, Jessica Priscila; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséThe present work, in search of a suggestive approach with the work and the spectator, investigates through social injustices directed towards infants, in particular child labour in Ecuador, through the object art. A shoeshine box contains 11 illustrative cards with national and international children’s rights and 4 paper toys illustrated from the calligram, in order to an interactive and dynamic action where children learn playing in a collective scenario with each other, with himself and the piece of art.Item Visibilización de la piscicultura y pesca fluvial desde las artes aplicadas como enriquecimiento del imaginario socioeconómico y cultural de Loja(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-07) Zúñiga Figueroa, Roberto Daniel; Machado Gutiérrez, María JoséIn the cultural imaginary of Loja, small-scale fishing and fish farming practices have been undervalued compared to other areas of the productive and cultural sector, which today would seem unique and decisive. Faced with this problem, the artwork Pescar en la memoria aims to contribute by making these identity practices visible. To this end, a series of puzzles is proposed - based on derivatives of urban and rural spaces in the canton - that will expose the main actors of these practices, who promote them from a conscious and responsible approach towards the environment. The pieces will demonstrate the richness of places and species spread in one of the sixteen cantons of Loja. Designed to generate a dynamic interaction with the spectators, they will be able to build the bodies of the characters through a classic Rubik's Cube, enter the captivating atmosphere of the landscapes through a sliding piece puzzle, and, through embossed pieces, witness the diversity of species existing in small river sources, while experiencing sensory knowledge around these practices, as a form of awareness. The aesthetic experience is stimulated through resources such as photographs, paintings and illustrations; and with the interactive work-public relationship itself. The result will foster a playful-educational moment that could lead to new ways of relating to these cultural practices in the future.
