Objective: To determine the frequency of solitary pulmonary nodules in patients who underwent computerized tomography of the chest in the period from July to December 2018 at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in Cuenca, Ecuador.
Material and Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in patients who went to the Imaging Area of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, in the period July - December 2018, to perform a chest tomography. The sample size was 297 patients. The processing and analysis of the results were carried out in the statistical program SPSS v15 and the tables and graphs were prepared in Excel 2017.
Results: The data were analyzed and we obtained the following results: 18.62% of 297 patients had solitary pulmonary nodules, 43.43% of them were male and 56.57% were female. The most common range of age is >= 65 years corresponding to elder people representing 54.88% of patients. On repeated times the location of this type of nodule was in the lower right lobe with 27.61%. The size of the nodules that appeared most is 5-10mm with 75.75%. According to density, the solid pattern was the most representative with 64.30%. Regarding calcification, it has a presence in 56.56%. Regarding the presence of contrast, 29.96% of SPN presented an enhancement with intravenous contrast. Finally, 58.92% of SPNs had a well delimited contour.
Conclusions: With this research project, the frequency of solitary pulmonary nodule present in a certain population quantity was determined by computerized tomography.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance is the standard gold test in the study of soft tissue injuries, presenting 95% sensitivity and 91% specificity, allowing anatomical images of the knee with high resolution and contrast (1).
OBJECTIVE: To determine the incidence of meniscus lesions diagnosed by magnetic resonance in the department of imaging at Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, during. January - June 2018.
METHODOLOGY: A descriptive prospective descriptive study was carried out. The universe consisted of 361 clinical histories of patients who underwent MRI of the knee; we proceeded to the revision of clinical histories, later the information was tabulated according to the variables: age, sex, type of injury, laterality, anatomical side and traumatic antecedent. The data were analyzed with the statistical program SPSS version 23, making frequency tables constructed in Excel.
RESULTS: We studied 332 clinical records of patients who presented meniscal injury, being common in patients from 29 to 37 years old (29.2%), with primacy in male sex (64.8%). The meniscal grade II injury was the most usual, with 154 patients (46%), presenting with equal frequency (50%) in both knees. The patients who had lesions in both menisci correspond to 66.6%, with a higher incidence in the internal meniscus (18.4%), presenting a traumatic antecedent in 37%.
CONCLUSIONS: The patients with the highest meniscal lesion are men from 29 to 37 years old, with grade II injury being the most common, affecting both knees equally

Computed tomography is the method of image of choice in the evaluation and diagnosis of the EPID, since it confirms the presence of pulmonary pathology and sets the correct diagnosis of associated complications. The radiological images obtained in this group of diseases are very illustrative, primarily to prevent the realization of unnecessary biopsies. For these reasons, the radiologist doctor should be familiar with basic radiological patterns associated with this special group of lung diseases. (10)
The present study is a prospective, descriptive. Developed based on data collected from radiology reports, in which we investigated the frequency of diffuse pulmonary interstitial disease, which is related to variables: age, sex, residence and radiographic patterns.
The universe was made up 580 patients who arrived at Imaging Service of the Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga" with order of chest tomography. We have the support and permission of departmental managers.
The results were as follows: a frequency of diffuse pulmonary interstitial disease of a 47.41%, the 52.72% were male; higher in patients of 66-75 years, and 60% live in the urban area.
Can be seen that a 21.09% corresponds to the linear interstitial pattern, 13.09% to nodular interstitial pattern, the pattern interstitial reticulonodular with a 48.36% and destructive interstitial pattern with the 17.45%.

Developmental hip dysplasia (DDC) is defined as a congenital disorder in which the junction between the head of the femur and the hip cavity where it fits abnormally develops. As a result, the head of the femur shifts outward (1). Anteroposterior (AP) projection of pelvis in conventional radiology is the most commonly used technique for the diagnosis of hip dysplasia in children over 3 months of age, with this test you can draw the reference lines and angles to locate the femoral head with relation to the bone part of the acetabulum. Objective To determine the incidence of hip dysplasia diagnosed by x-rays with the anteroposterior projection of pelvis in children 3 to 12 months of age at the Pablo Jaramillo Foundation. May-October 2019 basin. Methodology A descriptive, prospective study was carried out, based on the radiological reports of the pelvis studies, performed on children aged 3 to 12 months of the Department of Imaging of the Pablo Jaramillo Foundation. The established form was used to collect the information. The data were processed, tabulated and analyzed in the SPSS V25.0 program and Microsoft Excel 2016. Results The incidence of the pathology was 27.13%, with 81.45% in girls and 18.55% in boys, the most frequent age was 3 to 4 months with 52.42%. Conclusion The results obtained when conducting the study indicate that the incidence of patients suffering from hip dysplasia is 27.13%.

BACKGROUND: Colles fracture has been a current and common problem that is in the sixth place of trauma emergencies in our country. Studies show that in the city of Guayaquil, 60% of a total of 100 patients belonged to the male sex; in the city of Machala a 4:1 ratio of female to male patients was obtained, and finally in the city of Cuenca, 9.48% in a ratio of 2:1. It is concluded that the male sex is the most affected; that is why its investigation is considered relevant through the application of X-rays as this is a technique of high diagnostic value.
OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence of Colles fracture diagnosed by x-ray in patients of the Latino Clinic in the city of Cuenca, January 2019 - January 2020.
METHODOLOGY: A retrospective descriptive study will be carried out based on the data obtained in the medical history of the patients who attended the imaging department of the Latino Clinic for a wrist X-ray study in the stated period; the information will be tabulated, analyzed and represented through tables and graphs
according to the variables under study using the stookbook and Microsoft Excel programs.
RESULTS: This study determined that the prevalence of Colles fracture occurs more
frequently in the male sex with 51.83%, being more common in patients of 21 - 30 years old with 27.33%, as an injury mechanism, physical activity is the most common, corresponding to 46.60%, being the simple fracture with displacement the most present in our sample with 25.65%.

The main protocol for physical dosimetry used to characterize medical linear accelerators is that of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) [1]. This protocol presents the use of plane-parallel ionization chambers for electron beams featuring R50 ≤ 4.0 g /cm2. Muir’s studies [3] suggest a modified formalism for electron beam reference dosimetry of the IAEA procedure. For this, updated correlation factors are used and calculated through Monte Carlo methods. To determine low-energy electron beam reference dosimetry in a linear accelerator with a cylindrical ionization chamber according to Muir’s modified TRS398 dosimetry protocol [3]. This is a descriptive – prospective study. Therefore, data collection was based on information obtained using Mephysto software and devices to measure pressure, temperature, and a clinical dosimetry system to measure charges in an electron-beam linear accelerator. After reference dosimetry was determined using the TRS398 protocol, Muir’s absolute dosimetry is carried out. The differences between the two are less than 1.2%. It is possible to use Muir’s electron-beam absolute dosimetry in an accelerator since the percentage difference is less than 1.2% in regard to the standard system.

Pneuminia in children has become a cause of mortality worldwide. According to a UNICEF
publication in 2022, the most affected age group is children under 5 years since this group is
vulnerable to biological agents such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi, which can cause this
respiratory disease. Chest X-ray is the main imaging technique to diagnose pneumonia.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence of pneumonia diagnosed by chest X-ray in children
aged 1 to 5 years who received medical care at Pablo Jaramillo Foundation from january to
December 2022, in Cuenca, Ecuador. Method: A quantitative study was carried out along with
a descriptive retrospective approach. Data provided was analyzed and tabulated according to
the study variables. Results: Out of 392 patients, 44.4% of them reported a diagnosis of
pneumonia by chest X-ray, occurring more frequently in 1-year-old children (24.1%). It was
also reported that pneumonia often affects males (61.5%). Interstitial pneumonia showed the
highest porcentaje (52.3%), affecting both lungs (63.8)%. In regard to radiological findings,
the most characteristic was the air bronchogram (25.3%). Conclusion: Pneumonia is prevalent
in 1-year-old children and affects both lungs, which is in line with findings of other research

Background: The study of the breast has evolved rapidly since the incorporation of
x-rays. The emergence of the mammographic technique is the most important
milestone in the history of diagnosis and prevention of breast disease. Mortality from
breast cancer at the beginning of the 20th century was quite high. Currently, the
early diagnosis of breast cancer has increased the survival rates caused by it. The
BI-RADS system created in 1933 has made it possible to standardize the lexicon of
the different breast lesions and their classification in the radiological report.
Objective: To determine the BI-RADS radiological findings diagnosed by
mammography in patients over 40 years of age who attended the Hospital Monte
Sinaí Cuenca, in the period January-December 2019.
Methodology: A descriptive, retrospective - cross-sectional study will be carried
out, the universe being the radiological reports and the registration cards of patients
over 40 years of age, who performed mammographic studies in the imaging
department of the Hospital Monte Sinaí Cuenca, during the period January December 2019; This information will be analyzed and tabulated according to the
variables age, weight and BI-RADS findings.

General objetive: To establish the prevalence of degenerative disc disease present in the lumbar spine, diagnosed by magnetic resonance in the Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga" of the city of Cuenca, in the period January 2015 - January 2017.
Methodology: A descriptive-retrospective investigation was made of the results of examinations of patients who attended an MRI of the lumbar spine at the "José Carrasco Arteaga" Hospital in the city of Cuenca, from January 2015 to January 2017. The investigation was carried out with a total of 2018 patients.
Results: According to the radiological reports in the period January 2015 - January 2017, 2018 lumbar spinal magnetic resonance examinations were performed, of which 89.6% (1809), report a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease. Of these, 52.4% (948) are male, and 47.6% (861) are female, with an age range between 56 and 75 years.
Of the 1809 results of degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine, 79.6% (1440) presented a primary diagnostic of unspecified lumbago; followed by 9.8% (177) with a prior diagnostic of lumbar intervertebral disc disorders with myelopathy, and 9.2% (167) with lumbago with sciatica. 1.4% (25) had a diagnostic of scoliosis.
Degenerative discopathy occurs in five levels depending on the amount of herniated material: bulging, protrusion, herniation, extrusion and sequestration. Of the 1809 results of magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine with a diagnostic of lumbar degenerative disc disease, 63.3% (1145) present herniated material in the degree of protrusion. Like any of the levels of degenerative discopathy, protrusion occurs in two ways: specific and en block. When presented specifically, the most affected is the intervertebral disc L5-S1; when presented as a block, intervertebral discs L3-S1 are affected.
Generally disc degeneration, or Modic type change, is completely related to degenerative discopathy. The present investigation shows that only 21.5% presents disc degeneration with diagnosis of degenerative disc disease, while 68.7% do not. Being able to establish, well, that they are pathologies that do not always relate to each other.
Conclusion: Magnetic resonance imaging is the ideal study to determine the prevalence of degenerative disc disease, due to the quality of images obtained and the ease of studying both soft tissues and the bony part of the lumbar spine

BACKGROUND
The neoplasms of the pituitary gland represent between 9 and 12% of all primary tumors of the central nervous system, frequently occurring in the adenohypophysis. To diagnose using images, the gold test is performed, which is magnetic resonance due to its high sensitivity, It allows us to obtain images in a dynamic way.
OBJECTIVE
The objective in the present project was to determine the incidence of tumors in the pituitary gland diagnosed by magnetic resonance in patients attending the imaging department of the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca, December 2017- June 2018.
METHODOLOGY
For this purpose, a descriptive and prospective study was carried out at the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga in Cuenca city. The universe consisted of patients who had tumor pathology underwent a magnetic resonance imaging study of the pituitary gland. The data collection was carried out using a form designed for that purpose, in addition to the radiological reports and was processed using the SPSS V15.0 programs by absolute frequency and percentage, represented in tables.
RESULTS
The data were analyzed and the following results were obtained: 59 patients (72.8%) presented tumors of the pituitary gland, of these 74.6% are women. 79.9% of the patients were between 20-64 years old. The most frequent size of pituitary tumors were microadenomas with 74.6%. Pituitary tumors showed an expansion in the intrasellar area with 72.9%.
CONCLUSIONS
With the research project, the prevalence of pituitary tumors diagnosed by magnetic resonance was determined

Background: The herniated disc is a displacement of disc material outside the limits of the intervertebral space, excluding movements of the disc from one location to another within the intervertebral space, which generates discomfort in the neck and upper extremities. Various publications have shown that magnetic resonance imaging is the most appropriate imaging method for diagnosing this pathology due to its high specificity and sensitivity.
Objective: To determine the incidence of herniated disc in the cervical spine diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging in patients who come to the José Carrasco Arteaga IESS Hospital during the period May - October 2019.
Methodology: A retro-prospective descriptive study was carried out, in which data was collected from each Cervical Column Magnetic Resonance study corresponding to patients who present this pathology in the Imaging area of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital during the period of May to October 2019. For the data collection, a form was applied that collects the variables of this investigation. The information obtained was processed using the SPSS 23. V Program, Excel 2013, and the analysis was performed using descriptive statistics with the use of frequencies, percentages, and measures of central tendency (quantitative variables). The results are presented in simple and double entry tables.
Results: Of the 321 patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the cervical spine, 72.89% presented the lesion of which 53% were women, the age range with the highest index was from 50 to 59 in 30.34% of cases . 52.99% of the patients came for presenting pain at the cervical level. In relation to the occupation variable, 34.19% carried out office work. Regarding the type of hernia, 92.42% presented a disc protrusion and the most affected disc space was C5-C6 with 59.34% of patients.
Conclusion: The incidence of cervical disc herniation was more frequent in women with 53.42%, the age range of 50-59 years represented 30.34% and the occupation related to office work obtained 34.4%. Disc protrusion was present in 92.42% of cases. 29.03% who attended due to cervical pain presented the lesion at the C5-C6 level.

Background: Renal lithiasis is a frequent pathology of medical consultation. For its diagnosis, it is necessary to carry out imaging studies, such as a simple Uro-tomography, which allows the visualization, location and determination of the size of a kidney stone. Urinary tract stones are a very common disease among the adult population. It is estimated that between 10 and 12% of the population suffers from an episode of the disease throughout their lives.
General objective: To determine the prevalence of kidney stones diagnosed by simple Uro-tomography, through collecting data at the "José Carrasco Arteaga" Hospital in the period January 2019-January 2021.
Methodology: It was a retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive method.
Results: The investigation included a population of 1,578 patients, of which 741 (46.95%) presented positive kidney stones, while 837 (53.04%) did not present stones, all verified by performing simple Urotac. The prevalence of kidney stones was 67.07% in males and 32.92% in females. Regarding the distribution of proportions of the population with positive diagnoses of kidney stones according to the age group found in this study, the most prevalent are those of middle age between 31-50 years (68.54%). The highest prevalence of the type of stone was uric acid (62.21%). All types of stones were classified as hyper-dense.
Conclusion: The percentage of kidney stones detected in this study is similar to other studies in terms of sex and affected age group, but not in terms of the type of stone. Urotac presents a “sensitivity of 98% and specificity of 96-98%” (3).

Background: Degenerative disc disease is caused by the loss of proteoglycans, which makes the nucleus become dehydrated and shrink. The disc shows alteration, which can cause annular fissures and later a hernia. Objective: to determine the prevalence of degenerative disc disease in the cervical spine, diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging in patients aged 30 to 80 years at José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, in Cuenca, from January to December 2019. Methodology: Retrospective descriptive study. To obtain data, a form designed by the authors was used, which was collected and tabulated using the IBM SPSS 25 software, based on different variables. Results: From 550 magnetic resonance imaging tests 480 patients were diagnosed with degenerative disc disease (87.3%). This pathology prevails in fameless (64%) in the 51-60 age group (31.5%). The most frequent lesion is protruding disc herniation (59%), which can affect more than one intervertebral disc space (62.5%). Conclusions: These findings are similar to those of other studies showing that degenerative disc disease affects women primarily; imaging test show disc protrusion; they also show that the most affected region of the cervical spine occurs in more than one segment. MRI is the most effective diagnostic method due to its sensitivity and specificity.

Background: The main cause of shoulder pain is rotator cuff injuries; of the four tendons that
make it up, the one that is frequently injured is the supraspinatus tendon (1). Shoulder MRI
has a high sensitivity (around 90%) in regard to tendon injuries due to tears, a sensitivity that
increases with complete tears, and a specificity of 99% (3). Objective: To determine the
prevalence of supraspinatus tendon injuries diagnosed by shoulder MRI in patients aged 20-
80 years who received medical care at Medimagen, Cuenca, in 2021-2022. Method:
Descriptive and retrospective study which analyzed radiological reports of patients who
underwent shoulder MRI in Medimagen. Microsoft Excel and IBM SPSS Statistics 25 were
used for statistical analysis. Results: 422 radiological reports of patients who underwent
shoulder MRI in 2021-2022 were analyzed. Results show that 265 patients had injuries to
the supraspinatus tendon. Females were the most affected (52.1%) and the most affected
shoulder was the right one (64.2%); the age range with the highest prevalence was 50-59
years (27.5%). The most common injury was partial rupture (38.5%). Conclusions: The study
determined that shoulder injuries occur more frequently in females. The supraspinatus
tendon is the most affected, and different injuries like tendinitis, partial rupture, and complete
rupture, among others. The most affected shoulder was the right one.

Multislice computed tomography produces images of high spatial and temporal resolution as well as three-dimensional multiplanar reconstructions and high quality, which has made the Computed Tomography Urography (URO-CT) to become the technique of choice for evaluation tract urinary, virtually replacing the traditional urography. The URO-CT allows comprehensive assessment (urinary tract collecting system, ureters, and bladder).
We conducted a study to determine the prevalence of diagnosed Uro Renal lithiasis simple Tac José Carrasco Hospital patients Arteaga-Basin in 2011-2012.
The universe consisted of number of charts of patients aged 20-79 years diagnosed with kidney stones, were considered the variables age, sex, imaging characteristics, density and the most common site of injury. The information was collected using a previously developed form. For processing and analysis of the results was used statistical software Spss v-20 and Excel 2010.
The results were: kidney stones were more frequent in the age group of 30-39 years to 27%, the most affected sex was male with 55.35%, the 89.30% of the density calculations was hyperdense, the most frequent location was in the renal calyx (40.38%), the 77.01% of the calculations had a diameter greater than 3 mm and litho type was the most common with 37.70% calcium.

Background: Sinusitis is the inflammation of the mucosa of one of several paranasal sinuses.
For diagnosis, imaging studies are required, such as conventional radiography, which allows
visualization, localization, and delimitation of the size of the mucous membranes. Sinusitis
occurs more frequently in pediatric patients than un adults. It is estimated that 15% of the
pediatric population suffers from this disease. (1) Objective: To determine the prevalence of
sinusitis in pediatric patients aged 5 to 15 years diagnosed by X- ray at Monte Sinaí Hospital,
in Cuenca, Ecuador, from January 2021 to January 2023. Method: This is a descriptive,
retrospective, cross-sectional study using data collected from radiological reports of pediatric
patients who had an X-ray test of paranasal sinuses for suspected sinusitis at Monte Sinaí
Hospital from January 2021 at January 2023. Results: 209 radiological report of patients were
studied, finding 121 radiological reports with a diagnosis of sinusitis. Males were the most
affected (60.33%); the range was 5-8 years (80.82%); the most affected paranasal sinuses
were the right and left maxillary sinuses (66.12%); another finding was turbinate hypertrophy
(26.45%). Conclusions: This study determined that sinusitis occurs more frequently in males
between 5 and 8 years of age. The most affected paranasal sinuses are the maxillary sinuses
together with turbinate hypertrophy.

Background: Multiple trauma patients attend the emergency and imaging area every day, so
it is necessary to maintain updated data on the frequency in which these events occur and the
severity of the patients. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of trauma according to the
World Health Organization (WHO): Every year about 1.3 million people die on the roads
worldwide, and between 20-50 million suffer non-fatal injuries. Traffic accidents are one of
the main causes of death in all age groups, particularly in people between 5 and 29 years of
age. (1)
General objective: To characterize the kinds of fractures in the lower limb of multiple
trauma patients evaluated in the Imaging area of the “Vicente Corral Moscoso” Hospital,
diagnosed by digital radiological imaging during the period January-June 2021.
Methodology: A retrospective and cross-sectional descriptive method was carried out. The
information was collected from trauma patients who were examined by a simple digital
radiography in the period January-June 2021 at the "Vicente Corral Moscoso" Hospital.
Results: The investigation included a population of 205 patients. The prevalence of fractures
in the lower limb was 76.1% in male and 23.9% in female patients. The prevalent age group
is young adults between 21- 30 years with 33.7%. The bone with the highest frequency of
injury is the Tibia with 39.2%, depending on the exposure the predominant fracture is the
displaced one without exposure with 61.2%, the most frequent fracture line is the oblique
with 31.9%, and the prevalent side of the damage is to the left with 49.8%.
Conclusion: The percentages in the variables of sex, age, affected bone and laterality of the
condition are similar research data in other regions, in the fracture according to the exposure
and according to the line, the values oscillate a lot or don’t exist, the simple digital
radiography it’s the method with the highest specificity and low cost for the evaluation of
fractures.

Background: The development of a metastasis develops from a primary cancer,
thisfrequency study is convenient to generate records and statistics of cases, in
order to indicate the figures and look for a common antecedent that can solve or
act as a risk factors in the population, because in Ecuador the statistics are
alarming, the updated statistics in the country show that the prevalence of bone
metastases in breast cancer patients was 66% and 34% in prostate cancer
occurred between 45 and 70 year old patients.
Objective: The objective is to determine the frequency of positive results by
analyzing the database of the Imaging area of the Solca Cuenca Cancer Institute
of patients who have undergone the metastatic bone series radiology exam from
January 2017 to January 2021. Cuenca 2021.
Methodology: It is a descriptive, quantitative, observational and retrospective
research, where data will be collected using a form that will allow the results to
be classified according to the variables age, gender, type of primary cancer,
location and type of lesion, which will be processed, tabulated and analyzed in
the SPSSV15.0 program.
Expected results: The expected results are of a similar percentage to the study
carried out in 2015, where the primary cancer that develops metastasis in women
is breastcancer and prostate cancer in men. This comparative study with previous
research will determine the growth of the morbidity rate of bone metastases in
Ecuador that are indicative of the palliative medicine requirements

Background: The anatomical variants of the circle of Willis are usually detected as findings in imaging studies such as Angio-CT or Angio-MRI within an assessment of vascular obstructions, stenosis, aneurysms, etc. The Willis circle of classic morphology is considered normal, however, its presence in patients does not exceed 20-25%.
Objectives: to determine the frequency of anatomical variants through the analysis and interpretation of the MEDIMAGEN-Cuenca database, of patients who have undergone cerebral CT angiography during the 2018-2020 period.
Methods: a descriptive, retrospective - cross-sectional investigation was carried out, where the data of the radiological reports of patients who attended the "MEDIMAGEN" diagnostic imaging center to undergo an Angio-CT of the skull during the period 2018 - 2020 were collected. The data collection was based on
the established form. The data was processed, tabulated and analyzed in the SPSS program.
Results: it was possible to identify that the frequency of cerebral vascular anatomical variants diagnosed by cerebral Angio-CT is 72%, it was evidenced that the most frequent type of anatomical variant is hypoplasia with 64% followed by persistence of fetal circulation with 9%, the largest number of anatomical variants
of the patients analyzed occurred in the Right Anterior Cerebral Artery with 27%; the location of the topographical anatomical alteration is more common on the right side with 51.4%; however, the left side has a similar percentage 48.6%.
Conclusions: The frequency of anatomical variants was high, the most frequent type of anatomical variant is hypoplasia, both in men and women, the anatomical variants were presented in similar percentages.

Background: Thyroid nodules are a frequent finding in clinical practice, the incidence ranges from 6% with physical examination, 20-40% with ultrasound and 50% at autopsy.
FNAP (puncture-aspiration with a fine needle) is the most useful method for the study of a thyroid nodule (1).
Objective: To determine the incidence of thyroid nodules according to the TI-RADS classification system and cytology diagnosed in patients of the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, during. May - October 2018
Methodology: A prospective descriptive study of 519 clinical histories of patients who underwent the thyroid ultrasound study with its TI-RADS classification and subsequent cytology was performed. We proceeded to the revision of clinical histories, the results were tabulated in the statistical program SPSS v-25 analyzed based on frequency, percentage and sonographic characteristics of the nodules, presented in tables.
Results: The incidence of thyroid nodule is more frequent in women (87.7%). It is frequent in patients aged 51-60 years (26.6%), of which 24.8% are women and 1.8% are men. The size of the nodules is more frequently between 10 - 29 mm (60.5%), being 53.5% corresponding to women and 7% to males. 53.2% present BETHESDA II (benignity) and 3.1% BETHESDA VI (malignancy). 61.2% of the benign nodules present regular borders, while 87.5% of the cases that are malignant have irregular borders. 40.5% of benign nodules present peripheral vascularity and 37.5% of malignant ones present diffuse vascularity.

Background: Background: In the publication of the Chilean Biomedical Medwave Magazine (2013), Patricia Clark and colleagues point out that data on the prevalence of osteoporosis in Latin America are scarce at present. A study conducted in Argentina using bone densitometry showed that 1 in 4 women over 50 years old have normal BMD, 2 osteopenia and 1 osteoporosis. In Mexico, 59% of women have osteoporosis in the lumbar and hip spine (1).
General Objective: To determine the prevalence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women aged 40 to 70 years undergoing bone densitometry in the Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga" Cuenca. January 2016-January 2017.
Material and Methodology: A descriptive and retrospective descriptive study was conducted in postmenopausal patients, who attended the Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga", to perform Bone Densitometry in the lumbar and hip spine, between January 2016 and January 2017. We worked with 623 patients; the sample was purposive and corresponded to the universe.
Use of results: The present investigation allowed to determine the prevalence of postmenopausal osteoporosis, since, from the age of 40, bone mass is lost through menopause, causing bone alteration and consequently osteoporosis.
Conclusions: The study found 225 patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis corresponding to 36.1%, according to the location it was determined that 191 cases corresponded to osteoporosis in the lumbar spine, 3 in the hip and 31 in both areas. With regard to age, the most affected range was between 61-70 years.

Background: This study focused on imaging findings about magnetic resonance imaging of
the brain in patients with seizures. This is an abnormal electrical activity in the brain that can
cause temporary or permanent symptoms; therefore, a brain MRI is performed to detect
occupant injuries or morphological alterations. (1) Objective: To identify the prevalence of
imaging findings in brain MRI in patients aged 5 to 60 years with seizures who received
medical care at Medimagen, in Cuenca, Ecuador, from January 2017 to January 2023.
Method: The study was descriptive, cross- sectional, and retrospective. The universe
comprised the patients who met the inclusion criteria. Radiological reports from the database
of Medimagen, Cuenca, then an analysis was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics 21 v.26
and Excel. Results: 72% of 272 patients reported imaging findings. Most of them were men
(54%), and the most affected age group was that of 13 to 20 years (19.7%). The most common
findings included tumors and infections (18.7%) and focal cortical dysplasia (14.1%). The
temporal lobe (33.3%) and the parietal lobe (23.2%) were the most frequent locations of
findings. Conclusion: Positive brain MRI findings in patients with seizures were more frequent

In Ecuador there has been an increase in the rates of prostate problems. The
prostate is a gland that is located under the bladder and surrounds the urethra and
provides the necessary substances for the production of semen. Its growth occurs
slowly, from birth to puberty, rapidly until the age of 30 and from the age of 45 it can
increase.
In prostate pathology, alterations in functionality and structure have been evidenced,
highlighting prostatic hyperplasia as the most frequent manifestation that affects
individuals over 40 years of age, producing urethral stricture, urination difficulties
and precedes certain inflammatory pathologies.
Ultrasound is used to diagnose prostatic hyperplasia, with a transrectal examination,
the dimensions of the gland can be estimated based on the age of the patient.
Objectives: To determine the Incidence of Prostatic Hyperplasia in patients over 40
years of age who attended the “La Paz” Clinic, during 2019 and 2020.
Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study is carried out based on the clinical
histories of patients who come to undergo ultrasound studies in the Imaging
Department of the La Paz Clinic in the period January 2019 - December 2020.
Results: It was determined that the incidence of Prostatic Hyperplasia diagnosed by
ultrasound in the patients of the “La Paz” Clinic is 93.3%. It was identified that the
most susceptible age range is between 61 - 70 years, representing 37.7% of all
patients

Breast cancer is one of the most common neoplasms among the female population, mainly in
the population over 40 years of age. It is characterized by excessive and excessive growth of
cellular structures which causes abnormalities in the breast structure of variable size which
can evolve in such a way to cause the appearance of metastatic spread to different areas of
the body of the affected person leading to the aggravation of symptoms until subsequent death
if not treated properly. Metastatic bone lesions are prone to be a secondary condition in breast
carcinoma as well as in other types of cancer only changing its origin depending on the
carcinoma in question. Viable tests for detection and assessment are conventional radiology
studies, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and bone scintigraphy due to
their ability to characterize the lesion either inside or outside the bone. Its treatment
possibilities are mainly based on radiotherapy and surgery. The former makes it possible to
identify the existence of a foreseeable risk of fracture due to the previously diagnosed lesion.
On the other hand, surgery is applied in circumstances of poor or null response to radiotherapy
or in situations of high possibility of fracture. This condition constitutes an important public
health problem in Ecuador and on a global scale due to its high mortality rate and the
disabilities generated to its carrier.

Background: Lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative disease of the spinal joints; it is one of the causes of low back pain (1). It is the result of a series of genetic and environmental factors, traumatic events, or infections. The most common symptoms are pain, stiffness, and movement disorder (2). This pathology is common in men and women over 40 years of age, with a greater tendency in women (3). Objective: To determine the prevalence of lumbar spondylosis by means of lumbar spine radiography in patients over 40, who required medical assistance at La Paz clinic from January to December 2022. Methods: A descriptive prevalence study was conducted for statistical analysis of the variables used, based on lumbar spine radiology reports from La Paz clinic. IBM SPSS Statistics was used to analyze frequency, radiologic signs, relationship with sociodemographic characteristics, and risk factors. Results: A total of 97 (52.2%) patients had lumbar spondylosis, mainly women (68%) (n=66), aged 60 to 69 years (32%) (n=31); pain was the most frequent symptom. The most common radiologic signs were loss of intervertebral disc space (89.7%) (n=87), followed by scoliosis (79.4%) (n=77), osteophytes (78.4) (n=76), and decrease of normal density (66%) (n=64). Conclusion: A high prevalence of the pathology was found out, similar to the findings of other alike studies.

BACKGROUND
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a pathology that occurs in the airways and affects the pulmonary alveoli, it produces extensive scarring of the lung tissue and could be the result of an inflammatory response to an idiopathic agent. According to the WHO, this disease is considered to have high mortality rates if it is not diagnosed early. Computed tomography is the main test used in the diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis to observe in detail the main predominant radiological signs in this pathology which are necessary for a correct diagnosis.
OBJECTIVES
To determine the frequency of pulmonary fibrosis diagnosed by computed tomography in the Imaging department of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in the period June-December 2020.
METHODS
A descriptive, retrospective study was carried out, in which the frequency of pulmonary fibrosis will be investigated in patients who underwent chest CT at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital.
EXPECTED RESULTS
This study aims to determine how many patients were diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, its complications and the main apparent causes.

Introduction: Endometrial polyps are abnormal growths of the wall of the uterus, they can be one or multiple and their frequency increases with age, being of higher incidence in the perimenopausal period, it is also the most frequent benign pathology in patients with infertility or abnormal uterine bleeding, being responsible for approximately 25% of the metrorrhagia of menopause, their risk of postmenopausal malignancy is variable and is directly related to abnormal bleeding.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of endometrial polyps diagnosed by hysterosonography in female patients of "José Carrasco Arteaga" Hospital in Cuenca, from January to December 2016.
Material and method: A descriptive, retrospective investigation was developed based on the reports of 162 hysterosonographies, which are included in the medical records of the Department of Imaging of the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, of the patients attended in the period January - December 2016. The prevalence and characteristics of the selected variables were determined.
Results: A prevalence of endometrial polyps of 62.3% was reported, the most frequent age was in the range of 40-49 years (47.5), the patients of the urban area were carried out the study in greater percentage (89.1%), the most frequent reason for consultation for the examination request was abnormal transvaginal bleeding (85.1%). According to the characteristics of the polyp, the most frequently reported size (89.1%) was 0.6-29 mm. The highest percentage of polyps was located in the posterior portion of the endometrium (61.4%), the polyps with a base of sessile implantation were the most frequent (88.1%).
Conclusions: The most frequent cause for hysterosonography was the presence of endometrial polyps. In the research work performed the most frequent age of presenting polyps was in the range of young adults (40 - 49 years). The patients of the urban area are the ones who practiced this test more frequently. Transvaginal bleeding was the sign and main symptom in the population investigated. Among the characteristics of the polyp, I highlight the size of 0.6 - 29 mm located mostly in the body segment of the uterus and based on sessile implantation

Background: Thyroid pathology is the most frequent in clinical practice, thanks to the use of ultrasound, it has been possible to detect small, single or multiple thyroid lesions in which it is necessary to rule out malignancy through fine needle puncture-aspiration (FNA), which has demonstrated to be a safe, fast, accurate and economical diagnostic method.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of thyroid pathology diagnosed by ultrasound at "Clínica La Paz" during the period January-December 2018.
Material and Method: A retrospective, descriptive study of 253 medical records of patients who underwent a thyroid ultrasound study was carried out, of which 239 were used for research. The results were tabulated in the SPSS v-25 statistical program; they were analyzed and presented in tables according to frequency,
percentage and ultrasound characteristics.
Results: The prevalence of thyroid disease occurs more in women (84.5%), being frequent in patients with 61 years of age and older (33.9%), a total of 223 cases corresponding to nodular-type diseases, based on the IT classification. –RADS, the majority (64,5%) are located in a TI-RADS 4. Furthermore, according to
characteristics such as vascularity, this is absent in 38.5% of cases, the edges of the pathologies were mostly regular (54.4%), on the other hand, the size of the lesions ranges from 6-10mm with 29.7% being located mostly in the right thyroid lobe (61.5%). Finally, the data obtained in cytology reflects that 69.5% are equivalent to pathologies with a negative result for malignancy, the 15% are suspected of malignancy and 15.5% were insufficient samples.

“Fatty liver is a frequently found condition in patients who undergo medical procedures “(4) easy to diagnose with the use of a computed tomography. It is mainly associated with obesity, insulin resistance and alcohol abuse. This illness can have different manifestations when viewed with the use of diagnostic exams, some of which can lead to future unnecessary procedures, which is why it is very important that the radiologist be familiar with this disease (4).
This is a descriptive study, in which the prevalence of fatty liver was researched, with the results of 40% prevalence. This research was done with the support and the permission of the Directives of the Department of Radio Diagnostic.
The total numbers of subjects were made up of patients that arrived for services offered by the imaging department of the Hospital “Jose Carrasco Arteaga” with an order for a simple abdominal CT scan, the sample used were 300 patients over the age of 30, the prevalence was then related with the following variables: age, gender, weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI), CT scan characteristics.
The results were as follows: a prevalence of fatty liver in 40% of the sample. With 53% being male, higher in patients between the ages of 30- 39, a 67% with normal BMI, 75% live in an urban area and 53% have a normal sized liver.

Computed tomography allowing TCM has great advances in noninvasive diagnosis of various diseases. At present most of the applied radiation arises from the use of CT, followed by nuclear medicine and fluoroscopy.
The aim of our research was to determine the effective dose in studies of skull, neck, thorax and abdomen with a 64-channel Multislice Tomography in Arteaga's José Carrasco Hospital in Cuenca Cato, during the period from September to February 2014 -2015.
3129 cases with a mean age of 48.58 years with the largest age group in patients 16 years and older with 90.3% were studied; the most common female sex was 50.5%. 4 types of tomographic methods were studied, being the most frequent with 68.1% skull and neck less frequent with 1%. The maximum effective dose used was 21,98mSv in the group of 16 years or more and the minimum 0,38mSv in studies of the skull of the same group.
The effective dose in all CT without contrast in the group aged 16 and over did not exceed baseline levels. The value of the effective dose in all CT with contrast in the group aged 16 years and over exceeded baseline levels. Because no reference levels effective dose for pediatric groups found, the DLP was studied found higher levels in the first age group.
The results obtained in this research will be disseminated in the Journal of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cuenca and study serve as a basis for future comparisons.

BACKGROUND
The pulmonary embolism (PE) is considered to be the third cause of death at a cardiovascular level only after coronary artery disease and strokes; at a global level it appears in approximately 1 in every 1000 habitants a year. Autopsy studies indicate that PE is a 15% contributor or principal cause of death; in fatal cases more than half occur during the first hour of presentation. CT Angiography is considered to be the “gold standard” for the diagnostic of this pathology.
OBJECTIVE
Determine the incidence of pulmonary embolism diagnosed by CT Angiography in patients that attend to the Hospital Jose Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca, October 2017 - March 2018.
METHODOLOGY
A prospective descriptive study was carried out based on data obtained from a universe conformed by 61 patients. The recollected information was tabulated and analyzed with accordance to the variables, utilizing the programs SPSS V23 and Microsoft Excel 2016.
RESULTS
Of the 61 evaluated patients, 32 (52.5%) were diagnosed with PE, of this group 59.4% are female. The incidence was major in adults older than 70 years (62%). Half of the patients were issued from the emergency area, followed by hospitalized patients that represent 31.3%. In 65.6% of the patients the thrombus was found occluding both pulmonary arteries, those of which in their majority were classified as an acute type with 17 cases (53.1%). Dyspnoea was the motive of the more recurring query being present in 50% of the cases.

According to Practice Guidelines of the "World Organization of Gastroenterology", the prevalence of diverticular disease affects people aged 80 years in 65%, 30% in people aged 60 years, and 5% in persons aged 40 years. Simple and contrast-enhanced tomography has now become a useful diagnostic technique, offering the benefit of evaluating both the intestine and the mesentery with a sensitivity of 69-98% and a specificity of 75-100%1.
Our objective in this project was to determine the prevalence of diverticular disease diagnosed by simple and contrasted tomography in patients of the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca, January 2015-July 2017. For this purpose, a descriptive, retrospective study was carried out through the review of medical records of patients with presumptive diagnosis of diverticular disease who attended the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital with simple and contrasted tomography request, during the months of January 2015 to July 2017.
Data were analyzed and the following results were obtained: 70 patients (63.6%) had diverticular disease (diverticulosis), of which 60% were female. 41.4% of the patients are> 71 years. The most frequent location of diverticula was presented in the sec. Sigmoid (44.3%). ED presented in 67.1% to 1 of the 5 segments. 77.1% live in the urban area.
With the research project the prevalence of diverticular disease diagnosed by simple and contrasted tomography was determined.

Decreased bone mineral density is considered a silent growing problem due to its mild symptoms. Bone density scan allows to diagnose pathologies linked to decreased bone mineral density like osteopenia and osteoporosis. To determine the frequency of osteopenia and osteoporosis diagnosed by bone density scan at Monte Sinai hospital in Cuenca in January 2019 – December 2021. This is a descriptive and retrospective study. 1525 bone density scan reports were analyzed. 46.2% of them showed osteopenia while 22.2% showed osteoporosis. Both conditions were more frequent in women (92% in both cases). 58 to 68 year-old individuals were the most affected, with a frequency of 37.5% and 32.5% for osteopenia and osteoporosis, respectively. Overweight individuals showed a percentage of 40.8%. In regard to osteoporosis, normal MBI individuals showed a percentage of 47.6%. Finally, the area most affected by both pathologies was the lumbar spine, with a frequency of 953 out of the total of 1525 analyzed reports. As evidenced by the results of this study, there is a high prevalence of osteopenia and osteoporosis in the site investigated. Therefore, these results are quite important because of their impact on health, economy, and society, and also because these problems have been increasing as time goes by.
