The Greeks provided not just the bases of the western though or rationalism, but their knowledge also Influenced with their mythology in many aspects related to medicine. Some of those aspects are shown in this paper. We will start with the origin of Asclepius –Aesculapius for the Romans- God of medicine, his therapeutic
system, the symbol that identifies it –a wooden staff encircled by a single snake-, and finally with the origin of confusion with the caduceus of Hermes.

Objective: To build up a scale in order to measure
the type and severity of domestic violence
upon women attended at the Violence Units
located in Cuenca, June - November 2013.
Methods: Quantitative, Buildup of a diagnostic
test. Reference was made to a universe of
2555 women who reported domestic violence
at the “Comisarías de la Mujer” in Cuenca during
the year 2011. The sample was obtained
with a confidence level of 95%, an expected
prevalence of 60%, a worst acceptable of 65%,
n= 324 women, also calculating a possible 10%
lost cases thereby obtaining a sample of 356
participants. A form type Likert structured for
this purpose named VIFJ4 was used to determine
the type and severity of domestic violence.
Internal validity of this diagnostic test was
determined with Cronbach´s Alpha.
Results: This test maintains its internal consistency
throughout time; it has an initial Cronbach´s
Alpha of 0,938, and a retest Cronbach´s Alpha
of 0,944.
Conclusions: The test VIFJ4 maintains its internal
consistency being useful to evaluate the
type and severity of domestic violence.

Introduction: The need to generate knowledge
has different times in history. Health can be
summarized in three models: a) logical-positivist
or empirical-analytical , b ) symbolic-interpretative,
c ) critical or dialectical .
In order to review the alternatives and the model
that suits the needs of research in health
and environment, an analysis of secondary
sources is performed.
Development: In health research prevailing
positivist logic model and less interpretive
symbolic. The critical or dialectical paradigm
recognizes health as a complex object with
multiple dimensions. Health and environment
understanding the historical movement of nature
with it socio- ecosystem and forms of artificiality,
protective and destructive factors, the
relationship between collective and individual
processes is necessary. The dialectical approach
opens opportunities for triangulation of
methods and contributions from diverse cultures
to knowledge.
Conclusion: The critical or dialectical paradigm
allows a comprehensive approach to the
problems of health and environment through
which is made visible to the biology of the human
being is subsumed context and is modified
by the environment that is socially determined
and historically constructed

The prevalence of adverse drug reactions
(ADRs) of neuropsychiatric type reactions is
around 11.4% of all adverse reactions reported
by most studies. In our lack of data.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of
neuropsychiatric RAM type inpatient pediatric
services, clinic, surgery and obstetrics and gynecology
of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital
(HVCM) of the city of Cuenca.
Method and Materials: A descriptive study was
conducted from January 2014 to complete the
sample. The sample was 336 and conglomerates.
The information was obtained by spontaneous
reporting, with a survey based on yellow
card modified by the authors.
Results: A prevalence of 39.6% of cases with
possible neuropsychiatric RAM type was obtained;
female gender is most affected, in a
ratio of 3-1; most affected age is between 20
to 29 years; the service where a higher frequency
was found Obstetrics-Gynecology
with 19.96% of the cases; type headache was
more frequent with 21.4%; diagnosis was more
frequently associated with pneumonia acquired
in the community with a 59.09%; the drug
most often associated with metoclopramide
RAM was a 53.84%% (the RAM that is most often
associated with metoclopramide was dizziness
26%).
Conclusion: The presence of neuropsychiatric
RAM type Vicente Corral Moscoso in the hospital
has a high prevalence.

Objective: To validate the cultural adaptation
of the instrument (Community Orientate Program
in the Rheumatic Diseases) COPCORD
to detect musculoskeletal pain and rheumatic
diseases in the population of Cuenca.
Methodology: A COPCORD transcultural questionnaire
validation and its application were
made in the community to identify rheumatic
symptoms. A rheumatologist doctor checked
people to define the diagnosis. A descriptive
statistical analysis of each variable was performed.
Chronbach alpha, analysis screening
test (sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive
value and roc curves) was measured.
Results: A total of 201 people participated,
106 in urban areas and 95 in rural areas. The
67.6% were women with an average age of
50.3 years with 7.5 years in school. The 57.7%
reported musculoskeletal pain with an intensity
of 5.8 for VSA. Comparing the COPCORD
questionnaire with the clinical assessment of
the rheumatologist an 83.72% of sensitivity, was
observed, specificity of 61.14%, probability of
2.18 and area under the curve of 0.72; with a
Cronbach’s alpha of 0.7 for pain characteristics
and 0,9 for functional capacity.
Conclusion: The COPCORD questionnaire is
valid for using in rural and urban populations in
Ecuador; it demonstrated good performance
as a screening test.
