Potencialización del uso de la bicicleta entre la cabecera parroquial de San Joaquín y la ciudad de Cuenca

Abstract

The problems of pollution and global warming are an issue of great relevance today. The land transportation sector causes a high percentage of the world’s environmental and energy sustainability problems, and is responsible for 18% of CO2 emissions. The bicycle is a viable alternative to motorized vehicles, as it mitigates their problems and is economical. In order to enhance the use of bicycles, it is necessary to implement strategies in a multifaceted manner, that is, projects should be planned in such a way that they have a positive influence on three areas that affect the cyclist: individual, sociocultural and physical. Therefore, a four-step methodology is presented: definition of the research limits, which analyzes the most relevant factors and studies the road; delimitation of the study area; production of information, a diagnosis of the population and the environment and, finally; the results, where a synthesis is made, a tree of problems and objectives that allow establishing efficient strategies, based on the reality of the population of the study area. Thus, for the case of San Joaquín, five strategic lines for intervention are proposed, plus a pre-feasibility level proposal for a bicycle path.
