Abstract: | BACKGROUND: Recurrent urinary infection occurs due to the occurrence of several infectious processes, during childhood and adulthood. This pathology is accompanied by changes at the urogenital level where the main cause is the bacterium Escherichia coli, which adheres to the urogenital epithelium, forms biofilms preventing mechanical drag in urine.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of recurrent urinary infection in female patients who went to José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital.
METHODOLOGY: A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 1583 women, during 2016 to 2019 at José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. Purposeful sampling of all patients’ medical records was applied. The SPSS trial version 19 was used. Tables were used and the information analysed was frequencies and percentages, and the tables in dichotomous tables were analysed the PR and the O value.
RESULTS: 34.4% of cases had recurrent urinary infection, which was most associated with patients between 27-64 years of age, predisposition family diseases such as thyroid disease, hypertension, cancer, among others with 13.5%, where the main cause of the pathology was of bacterial origin with 16.7%, which demonstrates association and statistical significance: RP: 2.006 (1.75 – 2.28) and value of P: 0.000.
CONCLUSION: recurrent urinary infection was at the age of 27-64 years, with more than 3 infections per year. There was a minimum percentage of sexually active non- gestant women who developed complications |
