Abstract: | Background Information: primary Postpartum Hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the world, with developing countries being the most affected.
Objective: to establish the factors associated with primary Postpartum Hemorrhage in patients treated at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, in the year 2019.
Methodology: an analytical study of cases and examinations was carried out; where 120 cases of primary Postpartum Hemorrhage and 120 examinations were selected through probabilistic sampling. Record forms were used to collect data, which were presented in simple charts and contingency charts. In order to quantify the risk of primary Postpartum Hemorrhage PPH, OR, 95% CI, Chi2 (p <0.05) was applied.
Results: in both groups, young female adults were more frequent with 45% and 40.3% for cases and examinations, respectively. Statistically significant differences were found in the quantification of blood loss between the groups. The most prevalent comorbidity was obesity and overweight with 70.83%. The factors associated with a statistical relationship for primary PPH were: uterine atony (OR 61.6 95% CI 26.8 - 141.6 p 0.00); augmentation of labor (OR 2.9; 95% CI 1.6-5.3 p 0.00); and retained placental fragments (OR 9.7 95% CI 2.4 - 38.6 p 0.00).
Conclusions: primary PPH was associated with risk factors such as: uterine atony, retained placental fragments and augmentation of labor; all of them preventable and with great impact. |
