| Description: | Objetivo
Determinar la validez de la escala de Centor Modificada en comparación con el cultivo para estreptococo beta hemolítico del grupo A, para el diagnóstico clínico de faringoamigdalitis aguda estreptocócica en pacientes de 5 a 19 años de edad que acuden a consulta externa en el Centro de Salud Nº1.
Métodos y materiales
Se realizó un estudio de validación de prueba diagnóstica. La muestra fue por conveniencia, ingresaron al estudio los pacientes que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. El tamaño de la muestra se calculó sobre la base del 95% de confianza, error de inferencia 5% y prevalencia de faringoamigdalitis del 20%. Los datos se recolectaron directamente a través de una encuesta y de los resultados de los exámenes de laboratorio. El análisis se realizó en el programa SPS 15.
Resultados
El promedio de edad fue 11.4 años; de sexo femenino, el 54.6%; con instrucción primaria, el 45% y procedieron del área urbana el 81.8%. La Sensibilidad fue de 91.1% (IC 95% de 0.86 – 0.97), Especificidad de 97.7% (IC 95% de 0.96 – 1), Valor Predictivo Positivo de 95.8% (IC 95% de 0.92 – 1), Valor Predictivo Negativo de 95% (IC 95% de 0.92 – 0.98), Cociente Probabilístico Positivo de 40.57 y Cociente Probabilístico Negativo de 0.09.
Conclusión
La escala de Centor modificada discrimina con alta sensibilidad y especificidad a los pacientes con faringoamigdalitis estreptocócica en comparación con el cultivo.

Objective
To determine the validity of the scale of Centor Amended compared with culture for beta hemolytic streptococcus group A clinical diagnosis of pharyngitis acute streptococcal patients 5-19 years of age attending outpatient Health Center No. 1.
Methods and Materials
We conducted a validation study of diagnostic test. The sample was for convenience. The size was calculated on the basis of 20 % of the prevalence of acute streptococcal pharyngitis, with a confidence level of 95% and an inference error of 5%. The data are collected directly through a survey and the results of laboratory tests. The analysis was performed in 15 SPS program.
Results
The average age was 11.4 years, female sex, 54.6% in primary education, 45% came from urban areas and 81.8%. While the validation of the Centor scale gave a sensitivity of 91.1 %, specificity of 97.7 % and a positive predictive value of 95.8 % a negative predictive value of 95 %, an 40.57 ratio Probabilistic Positive and Negative Probabilistic Ratio 0.09.
Conclusion
Centor scale modified discriminate with high sensitivity and specificity to patients with streptococcal pharyngitis compared to the crop.
