Abstract

Objective: To validate Doppler flowmetry versus cardiotocography in the diagnosis of disorders of fetal wellbeing during labor. Material and methods. With a study diagnosis validation design included 170 pregnant women who underwent flowmetry of the middle cerebral and umbilical arteries to contrast with fetal cardiotocography for diagnosis of fetal wellbeing. The study was carried out at the Department of Obstetrics of Hospital Jose Carrasco Arteaga (IESS) of the city of Cuenca. Results. The population included in the study was represented by women aged 25 to 34 years, with 85.9% of urban residents. 45.9% of them had low birth weight according to height nomogram for pregnancy weight. The sensitivity of the flowmetry of the middle cerebral artery (54.44%) was higher than the other tests and much higher specificity (98.08%). The positive predictive value was 94.74% and negative predictive value of 77.27%. The diagnostic performance of peak flow was excellent for the index of probability of 28.36 from a low of 7.06 and a maximum of 113.88. Involvement. Doppler flowmetry of the middle cerebral artery has higher diagnostic capacity for fetal welfare changes cardiotocography and fetal umbilical artery flowmetry.
