Prevalencia de depresión y sus factores asociados, en internos de medicina de los hospitales José Carrasco Arteaga y Vicente Corral Moscoso, cohorte septiembre – agosto 2022 -2023

Abstract

Background: Depression is a disease that disturbs the state of mind, being the university students the most affected ones, where at least a third manifest some type of psychiatric disorder, 1 in 5 has experienced some degree of depression. Objetive: Determine the prevalence of depression in medical interns in the September – August 2022-2023 cohort and its associated factors. Methods: an analytical and cross-sectional study was carried out. The population was made up the inmates of the Vicente Corral Moscoso and José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. For data collection, the observational method was used and the database was tabulated in the SPSS version 20.0. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis, based on frequencies and percentages, measures of central tendency, maximum and minimum values. For the association Chi 2 and OR was used. Results: the average age of the participants was 24.3 years. The 65.4%, identified themselves as catholic, 57.7% said they consumed alcohol and 15.45% consumed cigarettes. The average of sleep was of 5.73 hours per day; 53.8% did physical activity and a 76.9% did not have psychiatric history; we determined that the prevalence of depression in the participating inmates was 34.6%. A statistically significant difference was found between depression and place of hospitalization (p= 0.009); hours of sleep (p= 0.012). Conclusions: the prevalence of depression is high and is associated in each case with the internship place and lack of sleep.
