Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de los padres de familia sobre educación sexual y reproductiva en adolescentes de 14-18 años de la Unidad Educativa “Joaquín Arias”, de la Provincia Tungurahua en el Cantón San Pedro de Pelileo, durante el período lectivo septiembre - diciembre 2022

Abstract

Background: knowledge of sexuality and reproduction is considered essential in order to avoid risks that these may entail: unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Among the most important sources of information that adolescents have are their parents, and many times they do not have the adequate quantity or quality, in addition to the generation gap that prevents correct communication. Objective: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of parents on sexual and reproductive education in adolescents aged 14-18 of the educational unit "Joaquín Arias" of Pelileo-Tungurahua during the September - December 2022 school year. Methodology and Materials: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study with 219 parents from the "Joaquín Arias" educational unit in the city of Pelileo 2022. A database was created and the respective analysis was made with the statistical package SPSS version 22, through frequency and percentage tables. Results: Women predominated, 20 to 39 years. With third level of education or secondary level, they work and live in urban areas, 47.9% married (as) and living with their partners. The majority of Catholics . Knowledge in 56.6% of those interviewed was regular or deficient. Attitudes were incorrect in 42.9 per cent of cases. Practices were inadequate in 58.9 per cent of fathers/mothers. Conclusions: Deficiencies were found in the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the parents interviewed, so it is necessary to focus actions in that regard.
