| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Abandoned canines are a potential threat to wildlife, domestic animals, and humans because they act as vectors for the spread of bacteria that represent a risk to public health in general. The purpose of this work is to determine the prevalence of Brucella canis and Brucella abortus in dogs by the application of serological tests. The study was conducted with 50 dogs that had access to the Pichacay landfill in Cuenca city. The dogs were captured in cage traps and then sedated, 5ml of blood was extracted from the cephalic vein in tubes without anticoagulant which was transported to the laboratory where they were centrifuged to obtain blood serum, they were stored in Eppendorf tubes at 20°C until their analysis. For the identification of B. abortus antibodies, the Rose Bengal test (IDEXX) was used and the indirect ELISA assay (IDEXX) was used as a confirmatory test. The recognition of antibodies against B. canis was performed with the solid-based ELISA test (ImmunoComb Canine Brucella Antibody Test Kit). Among the samples analyzed, one canine was seropositive to the Rose Bengal test and when performing the indirect ELISA as a confirmatory test for the presence of antibodies to B. abortus, all of them were negative. When performing the ImmunoComb test, 19 seropositive samples for B. canis were obtained, determining a prevalence of 38%, according to sex, a prevalence of 39.3% was obtained in females. In conclusion, there is a presence and also a high prevalence of B. canis in the sector which affects the female canines in a greater proportion. | en_US |
