Diagnóstico de la degeneración valvular mitral mixomatosa en perros por medio de ecocardiografía

Abstract

Myxomatous Mitral Valve Degeneration (MMVD) is one of the main valve diseases causing mitral regurgitation. This condition is most common in dogs with a 75% presentation with high mortality. The aim of this research was to implement the echocardiography technique in the diagnosis of MMVD according to age, sex and rate of disease progression. 200 previously clinically selected dogs with heart desease were required to undergo an echocardiographic examination, by assessing the morphometry of cardiac structures and blood flow to determine the diagnosis of the disease with the established variables. As a statistical method, cross-tabulations were established and the Pearson's Chi-square test was applied to determine significances between the different groups and the Odds Ratio was determined to establish the frequency of presentation of the disease. It was concluded that of the total number of patients evaluated, the MMVD represents 54,5%. In the univariate analysis for sex and for the progression index, there was no statistical significance(p> 0,05), while for age there wasstatistical significance (p <0,05). In the multivariate analysis of sex with age,statistical significance (p <0,05) was established in Senior Males with a relative value of 68,5% in the presentation of MMVD and an estimate of the riskof presenting the disease of 6,53 times more; while in Senior Females thestatistical significance (p <0,05) was also present with a relative value of 62,9% in the presentation of MMVD and an estimate of the risk of presenting the disease of 5,4 times more.
