Abstract: | ABSTRACT
Background: Worldwide, research on the pathogenesis of the human papilloma virus
(HPV) and its relationship with different cancers has been increasing, however, in Latin
America the lack of adequate education and knowledge about this disease has caused a
high mortality in recent years.
Objective: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the students of the
Medicine Career of the University of Cuenca about HPV.
Method: A descriptive study with a universe made up of 1161 students of the Medicine
School of the University of Cuenca. A survey was applied virtually through Google
Forms. The data were processed using the Microsoft Excel 2016 program and SPSS
version 25.0 using measures of absolute frequency and relative frequency, which are
presented in tables with their interpretation.
Results: the predominant age of the participants was between 21 and 25 years; Regarding
the knowledge that the interviewed students have, 78% said they had received information
about HPV, 85.1 knew that it was HPV, and 70.2% said that it affects men more. 84.4%
reported that HPV causes complications.
Conclusions: Regarding knowledge about HPV, a large proportion said they had received
information about HPV; Regarding attitudes, around half of the students reported having
an active sexual life, and a quarter said they had received the HPV vaccine. Regarding
practices, around half said they use a condom during sexual intercourse. |
Description: | Antecedentes: A nivel mundial las investigaciones, acerca de la patogenia del virus del
papiloma humano (VPH) y su relación con distintos cánceres, ha ido en aumento, sin
embargo, en Latinoamérica la falta de educación y conocimientos adecuados sobre esta
enfermedad ha ocasionado una elevada mortalidad en los últimos años.
Objetivo: Determinar los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de los estudiantes de la
Carrera de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca acerca del VPH.
Método: Estudio de tipo descriptivo con un universo formado por 1161 estudiantes de la
Carrera de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca. Se aplicó una encuesta de forma virtual
a través de Google Formularios. Se procesaron los datos mediante el programa Microsoft
Excel 2016 y SPSS versión 25.0 utilizando medidas de frecuencia absoluta y frecuencia
relativa, las cuales se presentan en tablas con su interpretación.
Resultados: la edad predomínate de los participantes fue de 21 a 25 años; en cuanto al
conocimiento que tienen los estudiantes entrevistados el 78% dijo haber recibido
información sobre VPH, el 85,1 sabían que es VPH, el 70,2% dijeron que afecta más a
los hombres. El 84,4% refirieron que el VPH causa complicaciones.
Conclusiones: En cuanto al conocimiento sobre VPH, una gran proporción dijo haber
recibido información sobre VPH; sobre las actitudes alrededor de la mitad estudiantes
refirió tener una vida sexual activa, la cuarta parte dijo haber recibido la vacuna para
VPH. En cuanto a las prácticas, alrededor de la mitad dijo usar preservativo durante las
relaciones sexuales. |
