Valoración del estado nutricional de las niñas de la Escuela Alfonso Cordero Palacios del cantón Cuenca, 2010-2011

Abstract

1. OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of the Low weight, overweight and obesity of the children of the Fiscal school “Alfonso Cordero Palacios “of the cantón Cuenca 2010.

2. TYPE OF STUDY It is a study of descriptive, quantitative type to determine the prevalence of low weight, overweight and obesity of the children of the school in study. The universe was constituted by 829 children from 6 to 11 years of age, whose sample was of 89 children.

3. INVESTIGATION TECHNIQUES The used technique went the survey to the parents of family to determine the socioeconomic condition, of health, education and the type of foods that consume.

For the valuation and analysis of the information one took as parameters from reference the formulas of Nelson for weight/age; it carves/age for the children of the 6 to 11 years of age and tables of Cronk to value the IMC.

4. RESULTS 50,56% of the children of the school “Alfonso Cordero Palacios” have low weight, followed of 39,33% of a normal weight, the 5,62% of the children are with overweight and the 4,49% have obesity, being the majority with a low weight; in relation the stature, the children have normal stature with 38,20 in one second position are the children with stature lowers 34,83% and of of high stature the children they represent a percentage of 26,97%.

According to the percentiles the 74,16% of children are within the percentile smaller to 25, in smaller percentage it is the 19,10% of children within the normal percentile and with a minimum percentage of 6,74% the percentile greater and superior are in. Giving like conclusion that most of the children are with low weight becoming a problem of public health, this must to factors, socioeconomic, cultural and styles of life that is affecting the homes of the children.

The influence of the family, the school and the mass media, are forms in which the children can foment suitable nutritional habits or on the contrary inadequate for their health.
