Factores de riesgo asociados a cáncer gástrico en pacientes diagnosticados desde 2000 al 2010 en el Instituto del Cancer SOLCA, Cuenca

Abstract

Objective. Identify the characteristics of gastric carcinoma and identify associated factors in a population of patients diagnosed and treated for more than ten years years in the Cancer Institute Hospital of Cuenca city.

Material and methods. Using a descriptive design, we collected 600 medical records belonging to the same number of patients whose diagnosis was confirmed by histology.

Results. The average age was 50.6 ± 10.7 years (23 - 83). The cancer was more common on the fifth decade. 42.5% of the group had 50 to 64 years of age. Males were most affected (61%). Chronic atrophic gastritis was 50.5% and 41.2% in gastritis. The Helicobacter pylori was found in 65.7%. 29.7% and 29.5% of patients had alcoholism and smoking. Heredity were found in 40.7% of patients (n = 244). Of these, the history of the disease in parents was significantly higher (P = 0.012) and was found in one in seven patients (16.3%).

Discussion. The results of our study are similar to those reported in the literature. The role of Helicobacter pylori and heritage have a growing role in the genesis of gastric carcinoma.
