| Abstract: | The real values of the technical design parameters that voice codecs possess play a very important role when it is desired to size the bandwidth within a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications network, so it is important to know these values. Thus, in the work presented below you get the real values of the most common technical design parameters that have of the voice codecs such as payload, bit rate, Packets Per Second (PPS) and frame size, through the Wireshark software for VoIP monitoring. For this, real VoIP calls were made through softphones applications and using different test scenarios. These applications were installed on smartphones and were configured with Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) accounts, where a set of 8 voice codecs was handled. This was done in order to find out if there are variations between the theoretical and real values of these parameters. The results obtained show that there are differences between these values. It is concluded that by directly using the theoretical bandwidth values of voice codecs, the number of users who could communicate at the same time in a VoIP network with SIP accounts would be oversized. |
| Description: | Los valores reales de los parámetros de diseño técnico que poseen los códecs de voz juegan un papel muy importante cuando se desea dimensionar el ancho de banda dentro de una red de comunicaciones de Voz sobre Protocolo de Internet (VoIP), por lo que es importante conocer estos valores. Por lo tanto, en el trabajo presentado a continuación, obtiene los valores reales de los parámetros de diseño técnico más comunes que tienen los códecs de voz, como la carga útil, la velocidad de bits, los paquetes por segundo (PPS) y el tamaño de trama, a través del software Wireshark para monitoreo de VoIP. Para esto, se realizaron llamadas VoIP reales a través de aplicaciones de softphones y utilizando diferentes escenarios de prueba. Estas aplicaciones se instalaron en teléfonos inteligentes y se configuraron con cuentas de Protocolo de inicio de sesión (SIP), donde se manejó un conjunto de 8 códecs de voz. Esto se hizo para averiguar si existen variaciones entre los valores teóricos y reales de estos parámetros. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que existen diferencias entre estos valores. Se concluye que al usar directamente los valores teóricos de ancho de banda de los códecs de voz, el número de usuarios que podrían comunicarse al mismo tiempo en una red VoIP con cuentas SIP sería demasiado grande. |
