Abstract: | Background: Several pathophysiological changes that occur in pregnancy such as edema, especially in the oropharyngeal area, make it a unique situation, potentially affecting airway management.
Objective: To determine the frequency of difficult airway predictors in pregnant women who attended Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in 2018
Methodological design: A longitudinal descriptive study was carried out at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in 2018. The sample was 342 pregnant women, the presence of difficult airway predictors such as Mallampati scale, cervical mobility, thyromentonian distance, cervical circumference, presence of obesity was evaluated. . The sample was obtained by applying the formula for unknown population (n = (Z2 x p x q) / e2) establishing confidence level (Z): 95%. (1.96) Margin of error (e): 3% Probability of occurrence of the event (p): 8% Probability of non-occurrence of the event (q): 92%.
Results: Predictors of difficult airway were evaluated at two times one during labor, finding Mallampati 3 and 4 more frequently with 65.5%, thyromentonian distance less than 6 .5 (71.3%), limited cervical mobility (51.8%), and at 8 hours postpartum and post cesarean section, Mallampati 3 and 4 (60.8%) thyromentonian distance less than 6.5 of 67.8% and limited cervical mobility were found
Conclusions: The physiological changes that occur during the last trimester of pregnancy and during labor if they influence changes in the airway |
