Abstract: | The great floristic diversity of the Andean forests of southern Ecuador, hosts endemic species of epiphytic orchids, which develop in native hosts, with little ecological information on the interspecific relationships established between the forophyte, the host orchid and the associated microorganisms. This paper presents the results of the study of the endophytic fungal communities that colonize the roots of the epiphytic orchids Cyrtochilum gyriferum and Elleanthus amethystinoides as they develop on the hosts Ocotea infrafoveolata van der Werff and Weinmannia fagaroides Kunth. We also report the isolation of cultivable endophytic fungi and their effect on germination. The results showed that the isolated strains Umbelopsis sp and Trichoderma sp, have a promoter effect on the germination of seeds of C. gyriferum, while the fungi identified as Meyerozyma sp, Fusarium sp, Mucor sp and Ilyonectria sp promoted the germination of seeds of E. amethystinoides. It was also evidenced that the richness of the endophytic fungal microbiota present in the roots of C. gyriferum was not directly influenced by the forophyte, while the results in the composition of the fungal community of E. amethystinoides suggest a possible effect on the part of the forophyte |
