Procesos creativos en espacios públicos: arte y feminidad

Abstract

The aim of this research is to propose a different personal interpretation for femininity, that is, a way of looking the femininity from another angle that comes from the feminine perspective and that surpasses the masculine artistic ideal which is strongly present in the history of art, sustained on the conceptions of the patriarchal system established for years and which excludes women from all artistic recognition. This personal interpretation of feminine identity emerges from the analysis of different positions of theorists like Juan Pando Despierto, who considers femininity in art; Judith Butler, a postmodernist philosopher who has elaborated important contributions on specific topics such as feminism and the Queer Theory; as well as Julia Kristeva who, in her book entitled Powers of horror (2010) examines the issue of abjection, which is going to be the main component of the conceptual aspect of this research. Regarding to the part of plastic creation, the present study is based on aesthetic references of artists who are related with this subject such as Marlene Dumas and the artistic proposals like Jessica Harrison's sculptures. The visual component of this work is the True Femininity or Verdadera Feminidad mural made on Pío Jaramillo Alvarado Avenue and Cuba street, outside Alonso de Mercadillo school, in the city of Loja, Ecuador.
