dc.description | Antecedentes: Ecuador presenta una epidemia de VIH/SIDA con mayor incidencia en poblaciones vulnerables, con una tasa de prevalencia de 0,3 entre los 15 y 49 años, por debajo del promedio latinoamericano registrado en 0,5. Objetivo general: determinar las características epidemiológicas en pacientes diagnosticados con VIH/SIDA atendidos en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga - IESS, período 2018. Metodología: se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal. El universo lo constituyen todas las historias clínicas de pacientes con VIH/SIDA atendidos en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga - IESS, período 2018. Resultados: 48.4% fueron entre 18 a 39 años, mestizos (98,7%), solteros (52,2%), 40,3% concluyeron la secundaria, 11.3% son docentes, y 11.3% son obreros. El 39% proceden de la Provincia del Azuay, el 49.7% residen en el Azuay, 52.8%, viven en zonas rurales. En el 99.7%, la vía de transmisión fue sexual, el conteo de linfocitos T CD4 es mayor a 200 en 71.4%, el 69.8%, se mantienen en observación entre 1 y 10 años. El 100% presento serología positiva, 96.2% carga viral y 93.7% recuento de CD4. En 6.6% se evidencio tuberculosis. El 3.1% fallecieron, el 50% a causa de una parada cardiorrespiratoria relacionada con SIDA. Conclusiones: la mayoría son hombres, mestizos, entre 18 y 39 años, solteros, de instrucción secundaria, docentes y obreros, el diagnostico se hizo con pruebas serológicas, además cuentan con registros de carga viral y recuento de CD4. La tuberculosis pulmonar es la enfermedad oportunista más común. Con baja frecuencia de mortalidad, la mayoría de estas en relación con etapas finales del sida. | es_ES |

Universe was made of all the medical records of patients with HIV / AIDS treated at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital - IESS, 2018 period. Results: 48.4% were between 18 and 39 years old, mixed race ethnicity (98.7%), single (52.2%), 40.3% finished high school, 11.3% are teachers, and 11.3% are workers. 39% come from the Province of Azuay, 49.7% reside in Azuay, 52.8%, live in rural areas. In 99.7%, the route of transmission was sexual, the CD4 T lymphocyte count is greater than 200 in 71.4%, 69.8%, they are kept under observation for 1 to 10 years. 100% presented positive serology, 96.2% viral load and 93.7% CD4 count.
