Background: the Association of Toquilleras María Auxiliadora of the canton Sígsig, is constituted by a group of women dedicated neatly to the fabric of handicrafts with the use of straw toquilla as a work activity; this occupation generates health situations that sociodemographically condition this population.
Objective: to analyze the sociodemographic characteristics related to the health of the toquilla straw weavers, Sígsig 2018.
Methodological design: descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out; by a population formed by the weavers of the Association of Toquilleras María Auxiliadora of the canton Sígsig, province of Azuay; the sample consisted of 116 weavers who met the selection criteria and signed the informed consent. A structured survey was applied, validated by pilot test. The data obtained were recorded in the database and analyzed through the SPSS version 15 program and presented in tables and graphs for analysis and discussion.
Results: the age group prevalent in this study was between 40 - 64 years of age (37%), the majority comes from the rural area (88.8%), of these more than half are married (54.3%). Regarding the level of education, those who have primary (75.9%) are the ones who predominate this study and most work 8 hours or less (76.7%). 75% have an income of less than 100 dollars per month, in addition 25% of the participants present cervicalgias as one of the main diseases produced by their work.
Conclusion: toquilla straw weavers have musculoskeletal conditions due to their long hours in the manufacture of the hat

Antecedentes: la Asociación de Toquilleras María Auxiliadora del cantón Sígsig, se encuentra constituida por un grupo de mujeres dedicadas netamente al tejido de artesanías con el uso de la paja toquilla; dicha ocupación genera situaciones de salud que condicionan sociodemográficamente a esta población.
Objetivo: analizar las características sociodemográficas relacionadas con la salud de las tejedoras de paja toquilla, Sígsig 2018.
Metodología: se realizó un estudio cuantitativo descriptivo, de corte transversal; por una población conformada por las tejedoras de la Asociación de Toquilleras María Auxiliadora del cantón Sígsig, provincia del Azuay; la muestra estuvo constituida por 116 tejedoras que cumplieron los criterios de selección y firmaron el consentimiento informado. Se les aplicó una encuesta estructurada, validada por prueba piloto. Los datos obtenidos fueron registrados en la base de datos y analizados mediante el programa SPSS versión 15 y presentados en tablas y gráficos para su análisis y discusión.
Resultados: el grupo de edad prevalente en este estudio fue entre 40 – 64 años de edad (37%), la mayoría procede de la zona rural (88.8%), estado civil casados (54.3%). En cuanto al nivel de instrucción, los que tienen primaria (75.9%) son los que predominan este estudio y la mayoría trabajan 8 horas o menos (76.7%). El 75% tiene un ingreso menor de 100 dólares mensuales, además el 25% de los participantes presentan cervicalgias como una de las principales enfermedades producidas por su trabajo.
Conclusión: las tejedoras de paja toquilla presentan afecciones musculo esqueléticas debido a sus largas horas en la manufacturación del sombrero
