Abstract

BACKGROUND: Having a person with motor disability at home implies a problem that also affects their caregiver, for this reason, this research is aimed at determining the overload that he experiences when performing his work, because a great effort is required physical and emotional, which can be an indicator of stress. From the early intervention point of view, the family and the family environment of a patient is the fundamental basis for its development, for this reason is essential the good state of health of the members that conform the family group and even more of the caregiver of a person with cerebral palsy. OBJECTIVE: To determine the degree of overload of caregivers of people with cerebral palsy who attend the Special Education Institutions IPCA and STEPHEN HAWKING, through the Zarit Scale.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: The research is quantitative, descriptive, and transversal. We evaluated the degree of overload of the caregivers of people with cerebral palsy who attend the Special Education Institutions IPCA and Stephen Hawking of the city of Cuenca using the Zarit scale. The obtained data were collected in Microsoft Excel and the relation of these with some variables was determined by means of the statistical program IBM SPSS version 24 and for decide the statistical significance of the variables to be studied the CHI SQUARE test was used.

RESULTS: In the present investigation we obtained as results, that the caregivers of the patients with cerebral palsy were mostly female (66.1%), young adults (56.2%), of high school (33.1%). %), and nuclear family (40.5%). The results were used for the purposes of this investigation
