Relación entre el inicio de la menarquia el estado nutricional y la actividad sexual en adolescentes escolarizadas de la ciudad de Guachapala, período julio-noviembre 2018

Abstract

Background: Menarche constitutes the beginning of reproductive life in women and is a determinant in pubertal development. The age of menarche is related to the nutritional status of adolescents, and is a factor associated with the initiation of sexual relations.

Methodology: an observational, analytical cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 114 school students from the school in the city of Guachapala. The data was collected through indirect interview with the application of a questionnaire. The data were transcribed and analyzed with the SPSS program v.18. The analysis was descriptive and inferential with the chi-square test and odds ratio with its 95% confidence interval. Statistically significant results were considered at values of p <0.05.

Results: The average age of onset of menarche is between 12.2 ± 0.9 years. Intercourse with sexual intercourse is 8.8% and with some degree of sexual activity is 36.8%. The average age of onset of sexual activity is 14.6 ± 1.67 years. 21.1% were overweight and 4.4% were obese. A statistically significant association was found between the nutritional status and the age of onset of menarche OR 3.81 (95% CI: 1.06-13.75), p value = 0.031 and between sexual activity and the age of onset of menarche OR 4.9 (95% CI: 1.84-13.46), value p =0.001. Conclusions: the age at onset of menarche is at an early age and is associated with nutritional status and sexual activity
