| Abstract: | This research is based on the approach proposed by Helio Piñón and Cristina Gastón, who consider modernity from its conception as an inseparable activity from the place it is situated. Starting from this premise, criteria have been found only with the purpose of animating the visual condition of every architectural practice.
The lobby of a building, being a focal point between architecture and urbanism, allows access to the project from both scales. It is, from this medium, that two constants are recognized in buildings between 1970 and 1980 by Mario Roberto Álvarez: a free-standing tower and a building between dividers, which can be combined in several ways according to the specific conditions of the environment where they are implanted. Hence, the tower of the Club Alemán in Buenos Aires, demands attention to reveal certain key aspects to access the compression of a greater group of office buildings in the architect’s construction work.
Additionally, the solutions of the lobby are contrasted with the urbanistic proposals of the Danish Jan Gehl, regarding how to think about a city at ‘eye level’. And it is in this situation that the importance of Álvarez’s work resides, whose consistency had addressed these recommendations a long time before. | Description: | Este trabajo de investigación se fundamenta en los planteamientos de Helio Piñón y Cristina Gastón quienes consideran a la modernidad desde su concepción, como una actividad inseparable del lugar donde se emplaza. A partir de esta premisa se han encontrado criterios, tan sólo, con el fin de animar la condición visual de toda práctica arquitectónica.
El vestíbulo de un edificio, al ser un articulador entre arquitectura y urbanismo, permite acceder al proyecto desde ambas escalas. Es, a partir de este medio, que se reconocen dos constantes en los edificios de oficinas entre 1970 y 1980 de Mario Roberto Álvarez: una torre exenta y un edificio entre medianeras que pueden combinarse de varías maneras según las condiciones específicas del entorno donde se implanten. De ahí, que la Torre del Club Alemán de Buenos Aires, se impone a la atención por revelar ciertas claves para acceder a la compresión de un conjunto mayor de edificios de oficinas en la obra construida del arquitecto.
Además, se contrastan las soluciones del vestíbulo, con las propuestas urbanísticas del danés Jan Gehl, respecto a cómo pensar en una ciudad a la altura del ´ojo´. Y, es en esta situación donde radica la importancia de la obra de Álvarez, cuya consistencia abordó estas recomendaciones ya desde mucho tiempo atrás.
